Every roster has strengths and weaknesses. Acknowledging that isn't being negative.

Keep in mind you are talking to the Huddle's dumbest poster.

Shaq has gotten grief in here since almost day one. He's a good player but he has never been a great player, yet somehow he is getting paid like a great player.

This is basically an annual thread at this point. I do think he gets more grief because of the Bradberry decision, however.

That's not good for a linebacker. Targeting mismatches against LBs is becoming the trend more and more - it's why Chinn was basically a LB for us last year because we already had two liabilities in Shaq and DEFINITELY in Whitehead -- and Shaq is Just Solid enough against the run and tackling that it's acceptable.

He's Eric Reid 2.0. He still tries to react to pass plays right when they happen instead of identifying the route concepts he's going against.

Yeah and remember that was supposedly going to be his strength when we drafted him. He was supposed to be our next TD.

To be fair, the HBs and TEs and usage of Slot WRs, and the schemes used to expose these mismatches, in today's NFL is way different than what Shaq has to cover on a regular basis.

Like 8 years ago we'd love Shaq unanimously here.

That isn't a new thing, although thrbusgae may be increasing. He was drafted with the thought he could be that guy. He just hasn't been.

If we hadn't had TD and Luke, we'd live Shaq. He will always suffer from having two all time great LB's around him.

Hard to criticize anyone last year. The defense was so passive we allowed receivers to catch the ball and then tried to.limit yards after the catch. Without pressure the secondary had to cover forever and they weren't good to begin with.  How many of those blitz attempts were off of stunts or disguised blitzes versus straight forward predictable bltzes coming from 10 yards back on a delayed blitz which was totally useless since the ball was already out to the 3 receivers wide open.

You can’t even prove he's average.

It is kind of hard to call a player who gets a rating below 50 on PFF as even average. It takes those bright blue homer glasses to squint that in with the rest of your “the team never makes mistakes” takes.

Maybe the coaching staff told Thompson to bulk up during the off-season in anticipation of a specific role they had for him ?

But in general it's better for older players to get more lean instead of adding weight.   The loss of weight helps improve quickness and speed, which counteracts the normal speed decline due to aging.

Way to quote PFF.

You should have kept that to yourself.

Sure. Because they are much more Biased than someone who claims every move a team makes is great while that team continues to suck. You’re the biggest homer on here and know absolutely nothing about football. But we should all listen to you. What a joke. How many examples of our past “debates” you want to look at?

I can guarantee if PFF had a good review, it would have been your first post. Like any source, their credibility is based on how nice they say things about the Panthers.

Homers on a Panthers’ Message Board? No way?! Most of us here are Panthers fans (believe it or not) and will be optimistic about our team during the offseason.

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
