Just missed 63 yard into the wind at practice
Building chemistry with JJ Joe,Oscar and Thomas

I've been hitting some bombs recently

Question on Charltons holding improvement: knowing where the balls going to be.... is big so he can just swing
He's been working with Charlton a lot this offseason- "We've taken huge strides"

On JJ vs Fletcher
I eliminate any understanding of whose snapping, its me vs the ball
JJ is a 13 year vet because he's amazing
Fletcher was drafted because of his abilities
On Mental Aspects
Been working with sports psychologist Dr. Perry 2x week
Need to know how to quiet things in the mind
If I can make my brain as strong as my body I can be successful
Work on thinking on and off the field
Get your mind to quiet while still thinking
Use Headspace app helps go to sleep
Uses a bio feedback device while kicking
Coach Rhule talks about Level 4 Mastery of things, Unconscious Competence

On Physical Aspects
Working with Dr. Jordan Shallow for phys program and nutritionist Phil Smith to improve performance.

Slye points to his St. Jude baseball hat- his parents trusted the doctors to save his brothers life...those doctors played a role in  him getting vaccinated

On Statistic Goals
He smiles, 100% field goals in anyway to best help the team

Best for the team is he hit 100% of his PATs and no field goals attempts (all touchdowns)

Just watched the video.   Like hearing about the kind of work  he is putting in.  Seems like  a smart guy.  Also found it interesting  the  emphasis Rhule has on the mental side of things.  Hope Slye is very successful this year.

As I think about it, in terms of games where he appeared to be the deciding factor, he wasn't THAT bad.

He was  5 for 5 FGs in the Chargers game FTW.  We couldn't find the endzone with a map that game.

He missed the 65 yarder at the end of the NO game.

He just missed the 67 yarder against KC.

He missed the 54 yarder against the Vikes.

If he had made either of the 60+yarders we'd be celebrating him as hero, especially the KC one, which JUST missed.

If Teddy had gotten enough RZ/2 min/Endzone  practice and the play came early enough so he wasn't rushed 🙄 he would have hit wide open DJ in the back of the endzone.

The only one I can reasonably blame him for is the Vikes, but in my mind, that was more on Teddy.

I'm a firm believer in giving kickers a pass on those kind of kicks. That distance is just too tricky.

As I think about it, I may be confusing 60+ yarders.  It may be the NO one that just missed.  Does anyone remember?

I hate it when teams pull off the throttle when they get inside the 35 late in a close game.  Sure, they may be in FG range, but 50+ yarders are not something I would want to put my hopes on.  Even when a FG will be the difference, the goal should be to break the 20.  When you break the 20, the goal should be to have the kicker lining up for a PAT, if there is time.  Don't be stupid, but don't quit, either.

A lot can go wrong with a kick.

Especially with such a shaky kicker like Slye.

Well if I remember right, we threw two checkdowns to CMC at the end of the KC game  for like no yards to set up the  67.

Somehow they knew Teddy would check down.

Not sure what else he can do to fix what wasn't working. Seems like he's hitting it from all angles.

Hope he hits it from all angles during the season.

His issues are between his ears. Sometimes that gets fixed, sometimes it doesn't.

Usually for kickers, once that goes(or if you just don't have it) there isn't usually a recovery. Like pro golfers that suddenly get the yips and never recover.

    • He does have speed. 21+ top end speed is very fast for a linebacker and his 3 cone drill time is considered excellent, close to elite.
    • This is awesome because you get to see the perspectives of the scouts--get a glimpse behind the curtain. I wonder whose doing this was; I am curious as to why David Tepper allowed it. Maybe it was his wife. Maybe Dan.  At least from my perspective--and probably one shared by other fans--when David Tepper bought the team, he closed everything off too much to the fans, and really didn't give an explanation. Things were obviously done because he (and/or some others wanted to do it). Remember when they used the guise of construction and all that to keep fans from seeing the team during practice? I know there are laws and safety and all that, but Tepper could've made it happen. And, of course, we all know that they essentially fired Jeremy from his independent contractor gig as a photojournalist. I never understood why they'd do that (and the negative reverberations obviously affected Jeremy and ultimately this place--i.e, us fans). The pie was (and is) certainly big enough to throw some scraps to the independents. I realize that you can't necessarily open the floodgates, but a few different perspectives from indy journalists whether in word or photos is a good thing in my mind.  So, it's great to see different perspectives. I will say this however: it is not without risk, as you know there will be some buster who will be calling the scouts out if the players flop. I think we should all keep in mind that the buck stops with the GM. It's nice to have one, however, that is so convicted in his people and process--and ultimately success, that he's willing to give fans access to this type of information. Pass this on to Tepper.
    • I hope he ends up being our best ever at the position. Ryan Kalil left big shoes behind that we haven't quite been able to fill since.
