And what exactly did I say that was wrong? Or not possible?
You take your tweets and you apply that logic about one scenario and apply that logic over all other scenarios that is doesn’t even apply to.

What if the asking price to move to 3 would have been agreeable? Do you honestly believe we would have still traded for Darnold?  I can’t say for 100% we would have, and you can’t either but you won’t admit that.  You will just keep repeating the same “sources” narrative that you do, even though those sources haven’t really even talked about that scenario.

If we would have had the 3 spot we would have been guaranteed a QB.  When we acquired Darnold there was talk all 5 could be gone.

Exactly, my point was at 3 we might have took an entirely different approach to addressing the QB situation.

Us passing on Fields on draft night doesn’t mean we didn’t like Fields, it means we had all ready invested in Darnold.

We couldn’t go into the draft hoping any of the top 3 QBs fell to us.  We had already burned bridges with TB, another team could have traded for Darnold, we could have been left with Grier.

it’s very possible that once Fields fell, there were some in the organization that regretted trading for Darnold, hindsight is always 20/20, but they won’t ever admit that after the fact.

He believed Teddy could do it too.

BS.  He was   a bridge quarterback during a multi year rebuild.  The QB we brought in last year was NOT going to take us to playoffs.

The aints traded him to a division rival....we knew he didn't have it.  But he was willing to come hold the reins so we don't become the joke of the league with our backups.

You may have believed Teddy could take us there.  You may be projecting again.

NO ONE wanted to come play here.  Tom Brady was NOT coming to the Panthers dude.

Then he gave 34M guaranteed(and a 3rd round comp pick) for a “bridge” QB? For what QB was he “bridging” the team to. That’s even worse than just mis-judging Teddy’s talent.

And the Saints didn’t trade Teddy. He was a FA. Don’t let facts get in the way of a good rant.

The Saints didn't trade anything. Bridgewater was a free agent. And we committed more resources to signing Bridgewater than we did trading for Darnold. LOL @ you if you think I ever advocated for Teddy Bridgewater.

You don't spend that much just on a Bridge QB.  You spend that much because you think he has a chance to be the guy, with that being said if he doesn't work out you draft a guy then cut Teddy after his second year and at that point you could consider him a bridge QB.

The fact is thought, for what we paid somebody thought he had a legitimate chance of being the guy.  Might have been Hurny, Might have been Rhule, might have been Brady.  At this point I think it was Hurny's attempt to save his job.

Rhule and Brady both had the biggest hand in Teddy landing here. If you have seen this franchise operate enough over the years the biggest indicator that it was Rhule in the drivers seat is the messy handling of the public feud with Newton followed right up with throwing Teddy under several buses. Sure he brought it on himself but we tanked his value in public. Marty Hurney was well known over the years to be loyal and accommodating to his players to a fault. Marty wasn't in charge he was riding in the backseat and halfway out the door.

Teddy was brought in as a bridge QB who they thought might have a chance at stepping up and being a longer-term answer.  But, his contract structure was such that after two years they had the out.  If he was the answer, great, but if not, we move on.  At least that was always my understanding of it.  The move-on point was after 2021 and we torpedoed that publicly.

The fact we overpaid is related, but a different issue.  Somebody tells our GM (at the time) "okay, go get Bridgewater."  He did.  My guess is he did what he always did.....overestimated what others thought of the guy.

He paid roughly $20M a year for a guy they could have probably had for $12-15M.  He did have interest from other teams, but they were not likely to get anywhere near what we put on the table.  But, our ex-GM is a guy that has routinely over-drafted or moved up to draft guys nobody else would have touched for a couple of more rounds.

Do I think Hurney had a role in the decision to get Bridgewater......maybe.  I don't think that is out of the ordinary.  Do I think he had a major role in what we paid for Bridgewater.....absolutely.  That falls right in line with his M.O. and history.  He may have felt he had no choice, but the list of players he brought in or drafted that he may have felt that with and those went too high on is pretty extensive, especially if we talk about over-drafting or moving up to over-draft.  The man had no concept of value, and still does not.

    • Won't say bust before he plays another game, but it was clear to me before the draft that wasn’t a number 1, or even close.  I guess if they can get dominant players around him and design for his deficiencies he could be serviceable. But why do you want to do all that when you can get a prototypical performance out of a guy that is whatever size and shape?  Do I cringe when I see him in the huddle? Yep, I admit it. Because I know what’s coming. But give me a real NFL arm and I’d feel a ton better about dealing with 5’10” 185. It’s always been his throwing/footwork/poor velocity for me.

    • Man, you bring up an amazing talking point. I remember thinking that though we didn't have the players we definitely had one of the best coaching staffs on paper. I figured that would translate to a great system where we could finally cycle in players year in and year out with sustained success. I was wrong after Year 1. 😂😪
