Man, how does he NOT end up in Washington? I can’t really see any other scenario right now. I’d actually like to see him play with Ron again and a stellar D

Ron doesn’t want unvaxed players.

I was thinking he was primed for a good season. Ultimately I honestly think one thing really caused this.

I think he would've had a better season but would have been benched after one bad game in favor of Jones.  That whole city and the organization is trying to manifest him to be the next Brady.

I wish Cam would just announce his retirement.  Hate to see the ending get worse and worse.

forget Houston.  Cam's ego and career has already taken a big hit......he would just get murdered in Houston.   He went to NE to prove everyone wrong.  That opportunity doesn't exist in Hou.

Backup QB is a great paying gig, don't have to do much. I'd be surprised if he retired.

I think you're right, although he would have been on a very short leash.  I think Mac was going to start at some point but Cam would have at least been the backup.  Now he's out of a job.

I love Cam.  I think he still had something left in him.  But he was never going to be the guy that played here again.  Going to Mac Jones makes sense.  Mac Jones has looked good IMO.  And I am a Mac hater.

but it is surprising Cam wasn't kept.  Gotta think it wasn't about play.   Either the COVID issue became a deal breaker or Cam simply couldn't remain once told he would be the backup.

Ron’s immune system is messed up so don’t think he wants any unvaccinated players.

Yeah, but this is Cam Newton.  Journeyman backup IMO was never in the cards to finish out his career.... even if he technically could do the job.

It's an interesting point, do you think Cam asked to be cut rather than be a backup?

Woooooow.  Wtf?!?!?!?  Belichick is a fuging asshole.  After all that talk about him and Cam having a bond?  Cam deserved so much better..

I hope Mac Jones sucks ass.

Jones does and will suck ass. But Cam was never the answer for the Pats, Belichick had to do something at QB and as soon as he drafted Jones that high it was just a matter of time before he was starting.

I hate Belichick too but I think he did Cam a favor. It's not all that unlikely that Bill told Cam he was going to be the backup and Cam asked to be released. It's MUCH better than being traded to some sh*thole situation that he didn't want to go to.

    • This is a good take it really is to the point dc needs to let the world see the real byoung b/c right now everyone in the media and tepper has had blinders on when it comes to young.  Its hard to even know where the panthers are at skill player wise with such horrible qb play.  I doubt it but legette may be a probowl wr he just cant throw the ball and catch it.  I am just so sick of every excuse in the book for byoung.  LIstened to a podcast and the guy was going over how many different options byoung had on the int and all of them were ok except for the one where he threw an int.  He said the play could be run by a hs qb and they would typically make a good decision.
    • I certainly have my complaints about Canales but I'm not ready to fire him yet for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Tepper has made this one of the least appealing jobs in the league. Morgan and Canales are here to begin with in large part because guys higher on the wish list take other jobs. If you fire Canales you're gonna end up replacing him with another third tier candidate who wasn't being seriously considered by other teams with openings. That's just the reality of the situation right now as far as I can tell. Secondly, despite plenty of room for critique, we are 6-6 despite the worst QB play in the league. That's really damn hard to pull off in the modern NFL. Especially when your D isn't dominant. Our D is greatly improved but is still a slightly below average overall defense ranking 18th in yards per game allowed and 20th in points allowed. Going 6-6 with atrocious QB play and slightly below average defensive play is pretty damn impressive. Even more impressive when you also factor in that we're in the red on turnovers differential at -3. When you combine league worst QB play with slightly below average D and negative turnover differential honestly you'd expect to be in play for the #1 overall pick, not 6-6 and having just played a game that a win would have you leading the division. So yeah, even though I'm far from sold I advocate for patience with Canales for the time being. If you ask me if I'm bringing him back next year, I'm a yes barring a catastrophic meltdown down the stretch which admittedly is very much a possibility.
