People still holding on to this pipe dream....lol

Not that it even is a pipe dream, but let Darnold suck, the Panthers get shut out on Rattler, probably Ridder, Howell or whoever else, and Watson get off with at most a slap on the wrist of 6 games or so...then tell us all how much of a "pipe dream" it is.

And, no, A-Rod and no other QB worth a damn will be a real option.

As @LinvilleGorge so painfully pointed out to me in another thread, Winston and Darnold have been the same type of QB on many levels.664131447_Capture_2021-09-05-10-08-15.thumb.png.5abbaf4839cdfb7415cc5c2ec2853b52.png

So, if you think Winston is going to flame out quickly, do you think Darnold is going to flame out just as quickly? And if not, why not? There are arguments to be made as to why both could flame out (or not), and there are arguments to be made that either franchise could eventually be in play for Watson. Of course with all the reports, and an owner that's apparently hellbent on getting a franchise QB (and would be even more so if Rhule's second project fails), I'd argue that we'd be one of the top players, if not the top player in a Watson sweepstakes.

Probably the biggest reason I think Winston will flame out is because, well, he's Jameis Winston. I've never been a fan of his and he's always played for one of our division rivals. It really comes down to Darnold is our guy and Winston is always the opposing guy, therefore I'm pulling for Darnold and booing Winston. It's homerism, but hey, there it is.

And Watson, don't get me started. Let's just let that go away.

So we finish with a record that we can't get Rattler at our pick. So we trade multiple pick to get Watson, rather than trade some picks to move up for Rattler?

I'd be happy to get Rattler (or Ridder), but you just can't assume that the FO will decide that it's best to decide to lay out draft capital on an unprovem product as opposed to a proven product. The FO may do that, but it's hardly a guarantee. Personal and legal issues aside, Watson is an established top 6 NFL QB at worst. Most would say he's certainly top 5 and many have him higher, particularly because he displayed the juice on a thoroughly sucky squad where he was the only thing that shined. As good as we think Rattler is, the NFL is a different animal where it takes time to learn, adjust and develop, and the worst of it is that some never make the leap. Watson is about the surest of young QBs you'll ever get the opportunity to acquire.

All that being said, the calculations and decisions are up to the FO. I won't lose sleep over whatever decision we would make if it comes to that (as long as it's not another middling to bottom-barrell retread).

    • The league would protect him.  The amount of poo Jerry Jones has had exposed and got away with?  The amount of poo Stephen Ross has got away with?  How long Dan Snyder got away with essentially fuging sex trafficking employees and poo???????  Taking down JR was a hit job.  You think the other 31 owners, especially the older ones aren’t blathering, blatant, ignorant ass, bigoted rich racists who have committed far worse things than Blue Jean Fridays?  The ones I named above have DEFINITELY did worse than what JR was accused of.  And do you think guys like Steve Smith would’ve been viewing him as a father figure if they felt that’s who he was?  JR pissed the league off with that last lockout situation and they made him pay.  They lined a new guy up to join their billionaire boys club in Tepper, and they prolly slid a pretty penny to Jonathan Jones to write the “expose,” to get JR out of here.  Again, all the owners I’ve listed above have been verified on record for doing worse poo, yet they’re still running their organizations, unquestioned.  They hand-picked Tepper long before JR was forced out, so he isn’t going anywhere.  Sadly.  fug the NFL.  (Also, to be clear, it’s always fug racism, bigotry, and sexual exploitation - not ever excusing it.  Just making the point that the NFL isn’t operating under this clear standard of justice applied to each and every case)
    • I was still in the throes of a contentious divorce and my job at the time had me work on Sundays.  At the beginning of the season I tried to still work around Sundays so I could see our games.  I think after Bryce came back from the benching, I said fug it.  First time in my life I intentionally didn’t watch our games, even through the Atlanta finale.  In the past, even if we didn’t live up to expectations, I would watch to still support and at least analyze player development, strengths and weaknesses, coaching, etc., but Bryce makes all of that a moot point, so I stopped watching. Again, this is asinine,  it if he is retained (still can’t believe this is even a possibility of a conversation due to how shitty our organization has become under Tepper), I will NOT watch next season until he is gone.
    • Live look at Bryce playing ping pong.
