Getting rid of Joey Slye was a bad idea as well.

Letting Butker go and keeping Gano only to replace him with Slye was moronic.  Why waste a pick, even a 7th rounder if you weren't going to give him a legitimate chance.

We let a big leg go so we could keep an accurate kicker only to replace him with a big leg only to replace him with an Accurate (not so Accurate) kicker and replace him with a questionable kicker.

Who is you favorite Panthers kicker?

Kasay, but the data bears out that he sucked in the clutch too. And he did have the worst day for a kicker I've ever seen in the first Panthers game I attended live. We lost to the Eagles that day by 9 and Kasay left 10 on the field missing three FGs and an XP. We did go to the SB though... where as we all know he proceeded to miss the entire field.

The data does suggest Kasay was worse than Gano in that one simple exercise undertaken by Football Outsiders...

...that said, the data-set is laughable and the exercise has holes in it large enough to drive a Mack truck through.

It operates off of an arbitrary definition of a fairly vague term but you have to have firm definitions to create a data set. I don't have an issue with it. I suspect your issue with it is that it shoots big holes in your preconceived ideas.

    • Given that the immediate impact we need at edge. We almost certainly address that in Free agency, not in the draft. Same with Linebacker, unless Styles or Allen is still there at 19. I think the same for OT.  What is the position that we could draft in the 1st round and get immediate help in the first is how im approaching their decision-making  I know ill get dragged for this, but im thinking they go DT in the first. A guy that can play right away and be a complement to D.Brown to wreak havoc at the LOS.   So unless a top tier LB is there, I think DT will be the move.
    • I think people forget that by his last season Steve Smith had the ass and he played like it - and for no really good reason other than that other stars were emerging on the team and he didn't want to share the spot light.  He was more of a locker room distraction than he was worth. He went on to have great performances with the Ravens' but G-man made the right move allowing him to move on from here.  I personally think it was addition by subtraction and we don't have a super bowl run with Smith on the roster. Steve Smith remains a narcissist who I've never seen internalize his own culpability when it comes to his relationships with others - it's always somebody else's fault as to why he was forced to act like an asshole. This video is a product ad.  I'm cringed that either of these two Panther greats are party to it.
    • I think the ‘issue’ here is that we had two guys that clashed for several reasons. In some ways they were different, but in other ways they had a lot in common, and sadly they couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Sometimes when you have two people like that together they are either going to love or hate each other, and if it’s the latter, you need someone to mediate and hope the two individuals are capable of putting their differences aside for the common good. In this instance, they couldn’t find a way to move forwards together because I don’t think either guy wanted to play second fiddle to the other. This video basically said neither guy had the tools to bridge that gap and mend that fence, and perhaps also were unwilling to give an inch at that stage in their lives and careers. So a divorce, while unfortunate, was always likely. Do we win the Super Bowl with Smitty and Cam? Well, it’s one of life’s big what ifs for us Panthers fans.
