I feel good about Chuba Hubbard/A Note about 2005

Chuba boi!

He has a real presence about him.  Once he shook off the sudden thrusting into the game, he slowed down and picked it up.  So I think he's ready for the moment and NFL speed.  He basically admitted to having a few/2-3 tripping forward type runs; I don't see an issue after he adjusted.

And then looking back, checking out his highlights, I mean nice.

I don't see why he can't at least have a Deshaun Foster type impact for us like back in 2005 when we were going into the year planning for the bulk still with Stephen Davis but he suddenly looked fried (minus all those short TDs).

It's like a similar team where we could still succeed with injuries and make it to the playoffs.  That was Fox's best team IMO, just plagued with injuries only 1 season removed from the SB and our top guys like Peppers and Smitty were peaking.

Fosters break tackle was elite for a min there. Chuba isn’t that guy, but I have faith in him as well. Hopefully with tremble playing more the outside runs become a staple

Oh no doubt about Foster.  Comparing impact potential not necessarily their styles.

Yeah the Colts game in 03 and the Giants game in 05 were killer.

That era is tough, having Moose and Jenkins on the 05 team would have been killer. Add in some better draft picks and I think we could have won it all. I know that’s a a lot of IFs lol.

from the first interview, I'll guess the "friend" who said "I believe in you" was Brady.  It's something he says.  Could have been Rhule, and it could be that Brady learned that from Rhule.  not really important but just that it was an interesting answer to the question about whether it was a teammate, coach or front office person.

"just a friend" was about the best answer he could give.  I think it shows something about the culture in the building.

I still believe both Deshaun Foster and Biakabutuka had HOF potential had it not been for their injuries.  Foster's first touch ever in the NFL was like a 60+ yard TD in preseason, iirc.  But then he tore up his cartilage and was never the same...  he lost quite a bit of explosion but was still a good power runner for a few years.  Biakabutuka had special power and speed...  just sad things went the way they did with both of their football careers here...  I was so hyped on both of them.

Now to the point of Chubba, he will be good at minimum, and I have a feeling he has a chance to be really special if he hits his full potential, and we could see that starting this week.  He's got a chance to show the world what he capable of on a huge stage this week...  he has the ability, as he showed in college at various points.  And once he got settled in last week, he looked the part.  I think he's got great contact balance, runs with a low center of gravity, and his one-cut and go ability is elite...  he just has to get his feet under him and get in the flow early.

A big part of football is having luck on the injury front, both as an individual and as a team. Just think about the guys the Panthers have had that have been derailed by injuries. It's crazy.

    • That's going to account for about a baker's dozen nationwide. He isn't bringing Taylor Swift numbers nor, sadly, are those shows bringing many female viewers in general. Substantially less than regular games will. I am not pining for any sort of publicity that isn't from the field, good or bad. Tepper has definitely cured me of any of those notions.
    • I think we are very far away from that, unfortunately. I also think our roster is far worse than most realize. It's largely unproven or underperforming young players or veteran journeymen. Our core is the smallest it has been in probably 15 or more years. The truth is, our talent pool has been shrinking rapidly since Ron left. This is the result of Gettleman's poor drafting in his latter years, Hurney's poor overall drafting and then the absolutely disasterous Rhule/Fitterer era. All the while, the deep talent pool we had was either retiring or leaving.  I mean, what drafted talent do we have that would even start on a third of the NFL teams? Just basically Brown and Moton. Horn really doesn't count because, well....he is never healthy enough to start anyway.  That's fuging terrible. If not the worst in the NFL, very close to it.
