You 'member that time Russell Wilson coulda handed the ball to Marshawn Lynch and won a SB, but thought passing would make him look better. I bet you Russell does....

Ouch.

Hes taking advantage of what the defense is giving him and he's doing it in a very effective and efficient manner that eliminates chances for turnovers and it's all part of the scheme.

You know, this isn't a bad thing. I really don't know why some people act like it is.

I get that maybe it's not the most exciting style of offense in the world, but if it wins games, so what?

I'm not praising or finding fault in his play.  I'm not advocating you praise him either. My comments were that no matter how hard this kid plays its not enough. It will never be enough for those that look to find fault.  It was the same for Cam and it will be the same for Sam.

Exactly. Five months of negative posts bashing about how the trade set the franchise back, how there is basically no hope with Darnold, how if he was any good he would outshine his situation on the Jets, how was overrated in college etc. All before he played a single down for us.

Darnold playing VERY well in a new offense behind a absolute trash offensive line.  We get five lines of (somewhat) eating crow, followed by 28 lines of ctitique...

6th in passing yards, T-5th total touchdowns. 24 years old in new offense that has a bottom 3 OL.  But let's discuss how he is 23rd in average intended air yards and 25th in average time to throw at 2.87 seconds. If Howell was our QB and playing at this high a level, there's zero chance the focus would be on these sort of stats.

Yeah, we should stop discussing how we could improve. Let's just be happy with being the mediocre franchise we've always been and hang out hats on those handful of years when we fielded a good team that didn't quite make it all the way to the checkered flag.

Some of y'all really can't understand that I'm happy to be wrong when it benefits the Panthers. I'm just a guy who loves talking football, doesn't mind formulating and sharing an opinion, and isn't afraid to be wrong. Sorry I'm not sorry that it makes you mad.

No, you're just a guy that likes complaining about everything. That's why you get the responses you do.

I don't necessarily have to agree with it but criticism has always been present following these losses. Cam Newton turning the ball over or missing receivers was always a topic of heated debate. Sam Darnold is getting a pass for the most part so I don't understand the need to jump all over anyone now it just makes us look soft. Everyone on this team can improve on something even Sam and he has previously acknowledged leaving points on the field.

Yep. Darnold has far exceeded my expectations so far and he's been very good under pressure. But God forbid I mention that he has two glaring opportunities for improvement and suggest that I think he can fix them. LOL!

So I waited until page 17, skipping over the squabbles (some day soon we'll be seeing old fashioned sentence diagrams enter the debates and I'm all for that. My favorite part of English class.). New words for an old problem, taking too long processing used to be holding the ball too long. That it's happening with a "clean" pocket seems to be the problem.

I have questions. Biggest is why is the pocket suddenly clean?

Could it be that we are in max protect so there are only 2 route runners? And those route runners just may be well covered with no DB turning their hips and Sam is waiting for one of them to create clear separation? This seemed to be the problem in the 1st half.

Or could it be that the rush has backed off to instead blanket our route runners and, again, Sam is waiting for clear separation? This seemed to be the problem in the 4th quarter.

Then again, it could just be that Sam isn't seeing the full field each time, doesn't know his WR's tendencies and doesn't fully trust that they are on the same page. Why do I say this plus his waiting for clear separation? Because I haven't seen a throw based on timing, a throw to the point where the route runner will be instead of where he is. YET. He's tried a few that didn't work but those will connect with consistency and trust between Sam and his WR's.

Nice strawman. Just saying it's consistent with your past posts about Darnold and your avatar that you would choose your critique to be on arguably the most promising/encouraging player on the team so far this year.

That sounds good, but if you never admit to being wrong, it's pretty shallow self-praise.

Don't know how you got to be a Mod here, and don't care.  Buy there are more than a few regular posters here who all feel your a negative damper, about a team that's currently got better record than all but 1 other team, and about a QB you never wanted to be a Panther.  It must irk the f___ out of you that he's doing as well as he has, so you gotta bring out some timing issues to harp on, rather than just manning up and admitting you were wrong about him.

This isn't an "echo chamber", and we're not "triggered".  We (and I think I speak for more of us than you do on this) are plain happy that the kid has done has well as he has, and see a bright future for him, and the team.

Now go piss on that post, and be sure to Moderate your enthusiasm about him, as you do it.

The thing you don't understand is I am too. I like to talk football. If you want to just be in an echo chamber of nothing but positivity, there's an ignore feature.

If you read this thread and only see me complaining about Darnold then you have some severe selective reading habits.

Actually in this thread you're correct. I think you've presented it very well. I was just commenting that in the past you haven't done the same and that the responses that you're getting may be because of past posting over the current post. That's my bad for not clarifying that before. I have no problem with honest football discussions but I myself have considered a lot of your posts to be heavy. But this is not one of them and I apologize for my lack of clarity before. I have no problems with this thread from you. I think it's honest and polite and a good discussion.

But as you can read above us now a lot of the responses are based on your past responses over this particular thread.

Dude, you be you.  This type of discussion and critique is what I’m here for, we always want to be better, why not the players that play for the team we love?  I checked on the Jets board several times in his time there, and they were even making fun of his looks.  Sad to read how petty and miserable some people are.
