If we wanted to trade cmc the time to do it was after his 1k 1k season where I could see a team giving up a 1st. Instead we gave him the highest rb contract in history and he’s played like 5 games since then.

I didn’t say they did. But rhule was here in January when cmc signed that contract in April and then fitterer restructured his contract.

Ok. So let’s play the assumption game here for a sec. So we opt out of the contract, he’s now a free agent? If he signs elsewhere what kind of draft pick does that return to us? A third?

None. His contract didn’t run out. They would have to cut him. You don’t get comp picks for players you cut.

Nada. Zilch. You don't get comp picks for released players, only expiring contracts.

I say keep him, but quit overusing him.   When he is healthy, he is used in 70 per cent of the plays.   So, when he gets hurt, our offense is lost.

Then I’m sure we could find somebody who would part with a 3rd or 4th for him and his contract. It doesn’t make sense to release this guy and allow him to pick where he goes and make us look foolish.

Then releasing him seems worse than trading him for something small or just letting him play out his contract.
