I'm not even a huge Hurts fan but imagine if we'd taken him over YGM in the 2nd, probably would have beaten out Darnold/Teddy. It's pretty crazy Grier is our only QB drafted since Cam but we've had like 4 journeymen wasting our time

I believe we had a perfect tank commander who could still sling the ball and make interesting contests in Allen.

He really would’ve been the same level of player than Teddy was. A bit more aggressive. Not as bad as Darnold and a fraction of the cost. He was the ticket

Yup losing with Allen/Heinicke was a lot more fun than carrying all this dead weight/scapegoating Rhule era business

Kenny Pickett is a 1 year wonder  1 year younger the Sam Darnold.. It took him 5 years to have that 1 good year.. In most years with good QB prospects he would be a 2nd or 3rd round pick..

This would be a horrible pick for us for many reasons.. Beyond the major red flags of hes older his arm isn't elite, he is a okay athlete and it took him 5 years to be a draft worthy prospect..

1. The coaching staff that might be doing the pick..

2. Picking  him eliminates adding day 1 starting talent for the Oline..

3. Since he is not a great prospect.. Like a Lawrence, Wison , Lance or Fields.. Yours forcing a QB on your next coaching hire he might not want..

He’s better than Sam Darnold

Darnold is one of the worst starting QBs in NFL history. Pickett will not be that bad I guarantee it.

Quick read from a scout on Pickett…

QB #8 Kenny Pickett 6’3″ 220 (5th round league grade)

Daniel Kelly’s Draft Board: He is not on my board

NFL Comparable: Rusty Hilger

Good fit: Bills, Jets, Browns, Steelers, Chargers, Titans, Giants, Cowboys, Vikings, Lions and Seahawks

2021 Film Exposure: Western Michigan, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Miami

Level of Competition: Moderate

Chief concern: Radical spike in statistics in 2021

Character concerns: None (background search came back clean)

Probability of being a bust: 50/50

Best way to beat him: Funnel coverages heavily towards the middle of the field where he loves to throw. Take away the middle of the field. Make him work the intermediate sidelines and work the short and deep levels.

Scouting Report

Frumpy looking and rough around the edges raw and mobile signal-caller with average arm strength and ball placement. Unorthodox, unconventional, and quirky. Operates out of shotgun formation. Glove on his throwing hand. Good ball-handling skills. Decent play-action fake. He looks extremely uncomfortable in the pocket. Elongated throwing motion. Happy feet. He will bail at the first sign of pressure. Spooked easily. Runs all over the place. Tends to take sacks. More of a sand-lot pick-up game type. Tends to lock-in. Best in the short to intermediate route level range. Ball has a tendency to sail high on him. Inconsistent ball placement. He does not throw the easiest ball to catch. Does not tend to throw receiver-friendly passes where receivers can just catch and go. Tends to like to work in the intermediate middle of the field. Inconsistent accuracy deep. Decent, but not a great arm. NFL defensive backs will feast on his passes with ball placement issues and lacking top-level arm strength. Tends to do better against lesser competition levels. Leads with a herky-jerky rhythm and tempo. Tough runner. Gets what he can. Knows how to slide. Probably the best thing he has going for him is he tends to protect the football. He does not throw stupid and careless passes.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
