McAdoo's x-ray vision for QBs

Other than his obvious track record of markedly turning around a 28th ranked Giants' offense. Perhaps the best thing about Ben McAdoo is his eye for talent at QB.

Most of us have heard that he wasn't a fan of drafting Sam Darnold, but Anthony Rizzuti brought us even more reason to be hopeful.

"That keen eye was first noted back in 2017, when the then head coach of the New York Giants reportedly made a spirited push to select a fella named Patrick Mahomes. According to a report the day after 2017’s first round from ESPN radio host Anita Marks, McAdoo was said to have loved the Texas Tech product and was “very upset” a trade-up to secure Mahomes did not happen."

So, he pushed for Mahomes? Smart dude! But let's look even further. You know he wasn't a fan of drafting Sammy, but when you look at who he did want to draft it should offer you encouragement.

“McAdoo had Allen — taken by the Bills at No. 7 — at his top quarterback based on his 'high ceiling,' noted beat writer Paul Schwartz. 'His second-rated player was Lamar Jackson of Louisville, who went No. 32 to the Ravens...'"

Rizzuti based McAdoo's board in 2018 as:

1. Allen
2. Jackson
3. Darnold
4. Rosen
5. Rudolph
6. Mayfield

And as noted by Rizzuti, that's not bad. It's almost extraordinary to be honest. The two he rated highly bespeaks of a recognition of the modern NFL, as does Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.

Between McAdoo's eye for talent and resume for turning a bad offense around, the hire is not as terrible as some are putting on.

How many coaches/coordinators will this be trying to fix sam?  5 in 5 years?

Well now he has Darnold and he probably has 10 games or so to help Rhule otherwise he will be the interim head coach.

I'm hoping that McAdoo's hiring leads to Sam's benching to be honest.

For who? We benched Sam and the offense looked much worse overall.

The Panthers problem isn't quarterback. Darnold could be a Pro Bowl player with an adequate offensive line. Sam Darnold, Brady, Rodgers, doesn't matter. The Panthers would've been relative garbage with anyone. Add in the fact that McCaffrey was hurt and a dude was calling plays who would be hard pressed to be a Division 2 offensive coordinator.

Within my response was the assumption that we acquire a new signal caller.

On an off note, I know that some don't agree, but I personally think that Cam is greater than Sam. Part of Cam's woes last year in my opinion was the fact that he came in mid season. Admittedly, it could be me just blindly seeing and hoping, but at the end of the day I'm hoping that with Benny comes a new signal caller.

The problem is QB. The problem is also the OL. The problem is also coaching. They're all massive problems.

    • For me to judge I look at it by group: QB - Improved most likely RB - Improved most likely (rookie upside) WR - Greatly improved (rookie upside) TE - Improved most likely (rookie upside) OL - Greatly improved DL - Slight downgrade (maybe?  Robinson + Wonnum + Clowney < Burns???  Could be equal or better) LB - Slight downgrade (different players - rookie upside) CB - Slight downgrade (rookie upside) S - Push Coaching - Greatly improved To me I expect us to be significantly better overall - but significant over last year means 5-6 wins.
