With the 2022 draft talent pool, you trade down. The talent between the 2 and 5th round are very close to the the 1st round talent in this draft. There are only 10 to 12 players worth a 1st round pick in this draft pool.

but we need one of those 10-12 players.

Let's hope they do neither. The fewer picks that Rhule has, the better it will be for the organization. Hopefully he can somehow nail the first rounder and then just fiddle about with the rest of the picks like he did last time.

Let's just get this last season of Rhule over with quickly and with as little long term damage as possible.

There are some silly takes on this thread due to a misunderstanding of CMCs Contract.

In 2022, our choices are - keep CMC with a cap hit of 14.3m, or trade/cut him for a cap hit of 26.6m.  There is no savings.  We lose the player and an additional 12.3m.  We're paying 12.3m for whatever we can get in a trade.  Who wants to pay 12.3m for a 2nd or a 3rd rounder?

Or we keep him for a year.  Maybe he returns to form or maybe he's hurt all year.  Who knows.

Then in 2023 our choices are - keep CMC with a cap hit of 17.7m or trade/cut him for a cap hit of 12.8m.  We save 4.9m and if traded, we get something for him.  This is a far more likely scenario.

Unless someone is giving me a 1st and 2nd for CMC, I'm not losing that extra 12.3m this year.

wrong

cutting and trading a player have different cap implications.

CMC's cap hit this year if he plays:  $14.3m

CMC's cap hit if cut before June 1st:  $26.6m (12.3m loss in cap space)

CMC;s cap hit if traded before June 1st:  $18.5m (4.2m loss in cap space)

Part of that 26.6m in dead money that your reference is $8.1m in guaranteed salary for this upcoming year, guaranteed salary can be traded and most likely the next team would account for.

If we trade him after June 1st the numbers change even more

CMCs cap hit this year if traded after June 1st: $5.7m, which would be a 2022 cap savings of $8.7m.

Of course that would leave a cap hit of $12.8m for 2023, but that would actually be less then the $17.7m if he played in 2023.

This is wrong.

If there is a boat to be had, trade back while staying in the top 12 or so.  If not BPA and attempt to trade a player for a day two pick...or two.

Play out the season as if we are the worst team in the league and try not to mortgage anymore of the future.

The most efficient option is to sell the pick, if we get anything similar to what was received for #6 last year, then do it so long as we stay in the top 15.

Take BPA / OL / QB, and use those additional picks as chess pieces in the draft to continue to build out OL depth as we will only be so active in FA based on our ''current'' cap situation as of 2/15/22.

That trade should secure a future first, so if we can get Willis, add OL on Day 2, or even trade newly acquired Day 2 picks to add more Day 2 / 3 picks to continue to build out the roster.

If we don't take a QB, we'll have ammo in 23' with that future 1st + our own to make a move IF needed.

If a team traded for CMC, AND took the guaranteed money we're looking at less pick value and that is not worth it as the trading team is going to look at picking up the guaranteed money as trade value give to us as well.

Trading CMC is not the option, fielding a competent offense is, and trading #6 would recoup more value than trading a back that's on a big deal, has several years left, and finished the last two years on IR.

I see you’re still trying to teach algebra to cats. How can someone not understand the simple math involved with the salary cap? And, as you said, the site does the work for you and they still have no clue. As they call you wrong and silly for being 100% correct.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
