"What are we doing in the draft" 2022 edition.

I think you make serious errors of judgement when you compare one person to another person to justify your belief that he will be successful or not.   I could say, "Tim Couch was another Joe Montana" based on their attributes in college.  I could say that Ridder is the same as Mond or Howell is the same as Baker M--but just because people might share a trait or two--or look similar in some way or another--etc. Means nothing.

QBs are best measured by "It"--so it is that swag in the huddle, the spark when he sees a WR breaking open when he is covered, etc.  It is hard to tell what happens between the earholes in the helmet.  You really can't compare 2 QBs without knowing that.

I can easily see us taking one of the top 2 QBs based on our pre-draft activity and comments to the media.  However, they are wrong about one thing:  This year, you cannot swing for the fences and miss if you take a QB and there is a stud LT on the board.  You better make sure the #6 pick is you QB of the future.  We have a QB right now that was a reach on draft day.  No buyer's remorse.  I would be happy if we took the OT and traded for Baker-at least we get the T and we get a QB with experience.  If I did that, I would not give him a long-term deal---he'd stay on the fifth year contract for 2022.  Why not Jimmy G?  Surgery and cost, but if SF eats some salary, why not?

I think this will be the play, but if people know that we are making this trade, they will move up for the OT.   They might anyway, which is why I think we should consider other options--such as an edge rusher or even trade back. I think this trade will be made at 9 PM Thursday, April 28. Boom--that is bold as hell.

You have to think of Baker as a means by which we get our LT and take a flyer on a QB--former Heisman winner, first overall selection.  Maybe this humbling experience does him well.  Not to beat a dead horse, but this just makes too much sense.

My preferred route is take the T, and ride it out with Sam.

Rhule and Co. made their bed, time to sleep in it.  Tired of throwing assets away just to achieve more mediocrity and a smaller war chest.

"Rhule and company" probably don't see it that way, though. Seriously doubt the "Rhule" part of that phrase would agree.

And he's still the one with final say on the pick, so...

Oh, totally agree...with everything but the pick part.

I think that job may have been taken from Rhule...but obviously that's just a hunch.

Jimmy G or Baker will likely be here, and knowing Rhule...it's probably Jimmy, unfortunately.

I found that interesting too. Isn’t he a OG more than OT and small school…

I would assume that would mean that we traded way back in the 1rst round AND see Christensen as franchise LT. If either of those things are true, Fitterer is doing a good job playing it close to the vest.

I agree mostly. I definitely want a T at 6 if Ike or Neal are available. Things get messy if neither are. Assuming they are I'd like to see someone brought in to compete with same (someone cheap). I would not trade for Jimmy or Baker unless they are put in a "clearance bin." If we could get Minshew cheap I'd go that route, or maybe if we are lucky we can get a developmental QB with our 4th round pick. I'm not against brining in a low rent FA. either...just somebody to push Darnold (Walker doesn't seem to be that guy).

Insiders say that he's been forced to listen to other voices more than he was before, but the final say is still his.

I see Ekwonu or Neal falling to us. Leaning Icky.

Stingley and Sauce are buzzing too much, Aiden and Walker are top-5 locks.  DET, HOU and NYJ need defense and in a hurry.  It's really up to JAX and NYG.  I just don't see Neal or Icky at #1, so actually it's possible we're the first team to select an OL.

My current top-6 guess:

1. JAX-Aiden

2. DET-Walker

3. HOU-Stingley

4. NYJ-JJ II

5. NYG-Neal (Plug and play RT w/Thomas at LT)

we get Ekwonu

Then the real fun is the anticipation of us doing something with the little capital we have.  Hoping we don't go crazy and mortgage more future picks for someone that a new regime won't be asking for.  Oh man if Goodell goes up and says we've trade into the first, this board would go bonkers.

BUUUT another kicker is that I could see someone trading up for Sauce.  Seattle, Baltimore, teams really like him.  So in that case, IF both OTs are magically there, do we trade down with let's say SEA (get 41 and 9) at the hopes one is still there or maybe Cross?

SEA gets Sauce at 6, we get an OT at 9, and gain 41.  Then it's up to ATL and NYG on the OL front.
