Game #4 Canes vs Rangers 7pm Puck Drop

Recommended Posts

From Canes FB:

NEW YORK, NY. - By the end of the day Tuesday the Carolina Hurricanes will either be headed back to Raleigh one game away from advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, or for the second time in recent weeks finding themselves in a refreshed best-of-three series, this time against the New York Rangers.

When: Tuesday, May 24, 7 p.m. EST

Watch: ESPN

Listen: 99.9 The Fan, Hurricanes.com/Listen, Hurricanes App

SERIES RECAPS:

  • Game One: Sebastian Aho ties the game with 2:23 to go in regulation; Ian Cole wins it just 3:12 into the extra frame for Carolina.
  • Game Two: Antti Raanta records a 21-save shutout as the Canes take a 2-0 win and series lead.
  • Game Three: Igor Shesterkin stops 43 out of 44 shots, backstopping New York to their first win in the series.

THE QUICK HITS:

More Offense In Store?: Albeit Sunday's 3-1 final doesn't quite show it, the contest featured a much elevated level of scoring chances for both sides. Carolina, who had 48 shots combined in Games 1 & 2, had 44 alone in the matinee at Madison Square Garden. New York also produced their most shots and chances in the effort, as the game veered a bit away from the shutdown defensive style that the games had on lock through the first two contests. Some of this was a result of New York's Gerard Gallant getting his top line away from Jordan Staal's group, some of it was because of the seven power play chances between the two sides. Will tonight be a replication of Game 3, or more of what we saw back at PNC Arena?

The Importance Of Special Teams: Speaking of the man advantage, it's role in New York's first victory of the series was evident early on Sunday, as they scored on their first power play attempt midway through the first period. Meanwhile, on the other side, Carolina had an 0-for-3 day, with a hybrid of chances going off the post and a lack of execution being cited as the biggest reasons why. Monday at practice Nino Niederreiter and Teuvo Teravainen swapped power play units for the Canes. Will that be the spark needed for Carolina to strike gold on special teams? Can the penalty kill keep the Rangers high-powered man advantage off the board?

He Is Human Though: Igor Shesterkin was the undoubted first star of Sunday's contest, turning away 43 of 44 tries from the opposition for New York. The only blemish on his performance was a routine looking backhand attempt by Niederreiter, one of which squeaked through his body and his glove hand. While sometimes goalies have their day and there's just no way to beat them, Carolina will go into tonight's contest knowing that Shesterkin may be a Hart & Vezina Trophy candidate, but he is beatable.

The Temperature Is Rising: After an incident between Max Domi and Ryan Lindgren, plus some words being exchanged between Gerard Gallant and Tony DeAngelo at the final horn Sunday, the Rangers expressed their displeasure with Carolina. Forward Ryan Reaves said Monday at team media availability that he intends to "do his thing, run some people and get in their face." Safe to say #75 in blue will be a player to keep an eye on tonight.

ESPN Broadcast: Sean McDonough, Ray Ferraro and Emily Kaplan will be the broadcast talent for tonight's ESPN telecast.

In Case You Missed It: Thursday's Game 5 at PNC Arena will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets can be found here.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

What Are We Wearing?: The Canes will be wearing white tonight.

More Milestones: Sebastian Aho is one assist shy of passing Ron Francis for the most assists in franchise playoff history. He is also one point shy of passing Eric Staal for the most in franchise history.

I think Reaves needs to go watch game 2 from last series.  This ain't the Carolina of old.

Is it 7PM yet?

    • Best I heard its a clause the bungals want to add. It prevents them form paying the full guaranteed amount if triggered. No one knows the details of the clause, but guesses are it relates to off-field stuff. Stewart is in the right here. Before they signed burrow, chase, and Higgins they were the cheapest team in the league bar none. Unlike tepper or jarrah Jones or any other NFL ownership, all Mike brown owns is the beagals. Every other owner has many other money making businesses, not bungals.  I still remember when Brenston Bunker was starting on WFNZ and he told the story about the beagals telling him to pick a used cup form a huge pile, LOLS! They been on hard knocks and I remember Marvin lewis telling the players not to take home Gatorade bottles........* but in that case, I believe some players were taking a back pack and filling it up with drinks. Still you make millions(around 200million) in net profit and Im sure coke gave the team those bottles, still... Its a 32 team billion business, someone has to the cheapest.....Panthers were around the next cheapest team before tepper bought them and he has POURED millions upon millions into the team. He bought a bubble that Richardson never would, so the team had to gather in building during the rain. He spent millions on coofus machines that he just gave away like the bubble. Tepper made that AC trailer a thing. I've trashed him about his concerts and taking away end zone seats from fans. But the guy will spend money any way to efforts to better the team, dang I just remembered the deal he gave Rhule- more than Andy Reid at the time.  I know results have not came, but Id 100% take Tepper over Mike brown as a owner.
    • There's no way they're shipping you some uniform you haven't seen lol.  I feel like they'd just refund you and ask if you wanted the new one when it launched. Probably just making the blues the primary, or a new helmet for a new alternate/variation.
    • Man even after 5-12 seasons they are able to produce hype videos.
