Cam on last season

Cam played well enough to win in his first start. The only fuged-up situation he inherited at that time was an incompetent coach, an incompetent owner and a roster of players who were ready to end the season in mid-November.

The Washington game was one of the better QB performances we saw last year.  That game still had similar Cam returns juice that AZ had.

that L was on Phil Snow and Jackson IMO.  Waited way to late to put Gilmore on Scary Terry on passing downs.

Yeah which doesn’t exactly jive with the whole “learning the offense” narrative. His best game was his first start, and his performance basically declined more and more as the season went on.

That's what allows him to be great.  Double edged sword.

This is true. But he’s also the most important player on the field. Sure let him run. But it needed to be limited. At what time did this FO get a bruising back to help out and preserve their QB instead of being lazy?

The offensive system was so bad, he played worse the more of it he knew.

The Fvcked up situation was with Rivera, who used him like a QB/FB

And it got us to a Super Bowl. Coaches have to use their resources to the maximum at all times in this league. They don't give you points for having a gently used QB.

Kuechly was also used as a tackling battering ram and it shortened his career, but he was the best in the game while he was there.

It's a tough sport, it grinds up the athletes and we won't cheer if they aren't trying to run through brick walls for their coaches and their teams. As an excellent example I present the 2020 and 2021 Carolina Panthers.

The Washington game was just a handful of cherry picked plays for Cam.   That basically has a one week shelf life.     Rhule also admitted the plan wasn't to keep him out there that long w/ such a limited set of plays but it was working.

So his next start he didn't know the offense and their was tape on the hand picked Cam centric plays he could run without knowing the playbook, verbage, etc.

I mean, Cam is done.  But what he says makes sense.  Rhule used him to stop the boos.  Once the magic was off his return and folks got a lot at what Rhule was going to do with him it was ballgame.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
