Agreed, if YGM isn't the answer DE is a day 1 or day 2 priority next draft.  We won't know if he plays behind a veteran whose obviously better than him now and said veteran likely will be using us for a Reddick scenario and bounce after a solid year.  What does that accomplish?  Dude helped pad our sack numbers for a season and we still don't have a firm idea about YGM?  Wow!

Hell if I know how they will use him, that scheme is a mess and failure to date IMO. They said YGM would be playing in tandem with Haynes where Reddick was. It's all more of the same. I actually like this player but I would rather see who is what that we already have and I don't think he fits well as a Reddick stand up DE/Edge LBer that we saw last year. Who knows with this crew.

YGM is not a stand up rusher... he is a big boy natural DE type. We need to keep him there. I expect him to have a solid year. I dont know why this thread is knocking bringing in a vet to help a young team. What a weird way of thinking.

what does that have to do with YGM's growth though? He didnt take snaps from YGM...

This is about Dunlap.  Unless I'm mistaken, he is a DE, correct?  If he lines up at DE and taking more snaps than YGM, then that is impeding his growth.  The Reddick reference is how he used this team as a springboard to a better deal, likely what Dunlap will try to accomplish.

You are either trolling or jumped into the thread late.

I know that but that's what was said. Jesus, the team is run by morons what do you expect at this point?

I think it was Rhule who said YGM and Haynes would be taking that spot. Don't get pissy with me about it, I think it is dumb too but that is where we are.

Last year we played a bunch of reps where the DE's stood up in a roaming stance with 2 DTs on the line and it failed after the Dallas game.

YGM, has done what a yound 2nd round pick should do...and that's ''flash''.

This is a big year for him, and adding (Dunlap) helps with the rotation, people can't honestly think Burns, YGM, and Haynes are enough.

I like the Barno addition, but he's also a rookie, veteran presence is need on the DL / in the defensive room to further solidify this group.

I'm also not worried about the 2023 cap, room / money can always be created, people that haven't see the ''cash over cap'' breakdown need to give it a listen / watch.

The salary cap is ''fluid''.

Still not ''more'' and I'm not arguing the talent he has, but the final number is the final number.

It's not a projection stat, but for fun if bump that to 76% you think you are getting a 17 sack season...

No, we deal with the final numbers.

Dunlap:

6 sacks in 2020 (age 32)

9 in 2019 (31)

8 in 2017 (30)

I like the idea of adding this consistency to our team, but I'm not expecting a ''big year'' for a 33 year old defensive end that seems to have been relegated to passing downs as a specialist -- which is exactly what we need from him.

Oh im not arguing the more. That was an argument between you two lol. Im just showing trying to show stats for people that think he would come in and take snaps from our younger players or not help our defense. He would be a good rotational piece. I don’t expect big numbers either but i think he would definitely help.

I like that is a reasonable expectation, Burns, Haynes, YGM, and Dunlap gives us a versatile flexible 4 man rotation.

Burns and Haynes are the speed off the edge, as both can stand up on play with a hand in the dirt based off their collge tape / NFL tape.

YGM, and Dunlap are more traditional DE's that can set the edge in 4-3 fronts while also sliding inside to bolster the interior pass rush while flanked by Burns and Haynes. Factor in Ioannidis' talents as an interior rusher and Brown in his 3rd year on the interior.

As a unit we could be better, people should remember the ''bulk'' of Haason's production was in 3 games if my memory serves. Not knocking his presence / impact, but it wasn't as consistent as ''12'' sacks might lead one to believe.

Will Dunlap take this team from a non-playoff team to a playoff team?  Again, Rhule sending mixed messages.  He goes from a seemingly young roster-building approach to these type moves, which is more win now signaling.   Apparently he can't make up his mind.  It's like 'I want to build this roster through young guys'.  *SQUIRREL* Older FA veteran available....must sign now!!!!

Well it is much more understandable than that. He knows he is on the hot seat and could get fired. So he doesn't REALLY care about the future if he isn't in it.

Dunlap is a short term boost for the team and it definitely will improve the defense. Will he be around for this "7 year plan?" Absolutely not.

Tepper has been quoted saying Rhule has at least 5 years, lol!

"Will he be around beyond this year? Absolutely not."  FIFY

In fairness, this does sound similar to our offseason last year in bolstering the DL that netted mixed results.

Even with Dunlap being added, I would be pretty surprised to see us field an elite DL in 2022. A modest improvement would be nice and should be the minimum expectation.
