Unless Corral looks like a can't miss prospect, I am for drafting a QB in next years draft to keep all options open.  I'm tired of getting pigeon-holed into a last gasp solution at QB.  Darnold is gone after this season, I have no doubts.  If Baker flops or wants a long-term, big money deal after anything less than a MVP-esque season...let him walk too.  Remember, Corral is the only QB inked beyond this season for the Panthers.

In that scenario at least we would have another open competition and not be stuck with an unproven Corral as our only option.

If Baker isn’t the answer and Corral is still a question mark, we should absolutely draft one IMO. We would have a very cheap QB room against the cap also.

If we get to the point where we know Baker isn't the answer, we better be answering the question marks about Corral as well instead of waiting.

Yeah if we're obviously toast in December they need to play Corral, no point in watching 2 guys who probably won't be here next year finish the season if we're out of the playoff contention

Yeah, but any bozo can look great for 2-3 games.

I expect Corral will get some game time but will still be a question mark next off-season.

If Baker sucks, corral will get a legit shot. If Baker works out, Corrals career is most likely toast.

Depends on where we draft and how much it costs to move up. In 2022, quarterback costs were very small to draft a good one. In 2021 it took multiple firsts to move up to snag a top QB. If they stay as sought after as 2021, I am not sure cheap would apply if it costs multiple firsts to acquire even if they are on a rookie contract.

I doubt we are good enough to be lower than mid-round in the first.  ON PAPER, this 2023 QB class is loaded.  As they say, that's why they play the games.  If this class lives up to it's billing, we may not have to move up to get a quality guy.   Deep QB classes have guys "fall" to the mid-round.  Mac Jones is the latest example.

You finally put some sugar on it, didn't you?

I'm sure it's the exact same contract.  He just needed to sign before camp.  It looks like Willis just recently signed with the Titans as well.  Kind of weird they are all waiting until the last minute...

Something to do with getting their roster bonuses paid by the 5th day of training camp starting next year, more of the money up front I guess.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
