Practice Squad QB

Don't hate it, but was hoping we'd somehow sign a better backup and throw PJ on the practice squad.

I like having PJ on the practice squad given his scrambling ability as he can help us prepare against the more mobile QB's, but the guy has proven that he isn't much more than that, he's not a viable NFL QB unfortunately.

Rhule's fascination with his former players is not a successful strategy in the NFL, that needs to be stopped.

The plan is for Darnold to be the backup once he's healed.

I do think Eason is a better quarterback than Walker though. Gonna hate it if, when Darnold comes back, we dump Eason in favor of PJ.

I'd still rather have PJ on the practice squad right now while signing a better backup.

Then if/when Darnold comes back, cut said backup

Or if I personally had my choice, just IR Darnold and let that terrible experiment be over, he's of no value to us anymore.

Yep and he didn't live up to expectations...

He had decent stats at Georgia but injured in his 4th game as starter. Jacob Fromme came in and never gave him back the starting job. He transferred to Washington but had to sit out a year. Only played at Washington for a year as starter. Went pro after that one year as a Junior. Drafted by Indy in the 4th round. Was projected in 2nd round.

Who would you suggest? Don’t think anyone is worth it that’s out there. Keep in mind PJ has an entire offseason in the offense and took the most preseason reps, so at least he has knowledge of the scheme. I think PJ sucks but I don’t think it’s prudent to bring someone in off the street at this stage to be the #2 QB. Honestly I hope he gets cut once Darnold is ready to play and we just keep Eason on the PS.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
