Saw this tweet earlier.  Wasn't gonna make a thread on it, but this seems like an appropriate place to drop it.

Cam Newton can do better than this and give a team a better chance at winning a game at the end. Neither are going to win you a SB, but why must we keep downgrading the QB position. It hasn't been this bad since going from Beuerlein to Lewis to Weinke. Makes me wish we had a Pickles situation where we go from Delhomme to Pickles to Newton.

Newton to Allen to Bridgewater to Darnold to Baker is half a decade of missing on QBs

There are 3 QBs that would perform like Delhomme and 1 QB that is sitting out there available like Kurt Warner. Trade for them or sign the best of the 4 off the street.

These front offices keep thinking these college game QBs can transition to the NFL with success, and they are dead wrong.

Cam has been washed for several years now dude. It's absolutely brutal but Rivera and Shula ran him into the ground and got his shoulder destroyed

This has been a false ass narrative. There’s a difference between being washed and not knowing the playbook. I watched every game he played in NE and he wasn’t washed. Keep in mind the very next year with Mac Jones 5 of the top 6 pass catchers for Mac wasn’t even  on the roster for Cam. Go back and watch Cam in the preseason with New England, he was throwing darts. Then he came here and didn’t know the plays. But hey it’s nothing new for the black QB.

You are blinded by your bias. He can occasionally throw darts but far too often for an NFL QB he has throws that have nothing on them. His shoulder is completely done. He would be wise to look for a Taysom Hill type role as he can still excel in that role, but his days as a starting QB are 100% done.

he was skipping passes like nobodys business in NE and then last year it was painfully obvious he is shot

Isn't Baker's completion percentage like 55%? Doing math here, but that tells me he's actually playing ok all things considered. He's facing stupid rush and we run the ball with our highly paid RB like 10 times a game.

I'm not as down on Mayfield as others, in general, having watched him play since he entered the league, and with being in this new (unideal) situation, however,  55% is not good.

Drops haven't helped, route and timing issues and communications (on QB or WR or both) aren't helping, but Mayfield is not throwing accurately, and he needs to fix it.

He was one of the more accurate passers in college, and opened 2021 with the highest % in the league, so he's more than capable of bringing that back up above 60, and ideally higher.

But, we don't need to excuse 55% passing. Also, we should not expect to see that number continue. He'll get more accurate as the season goes along, assuming he's not benched or killed behind the OL's poor unit play (but strong individual play).

Does Dan describe the situations on these downs?

If its 3rd and Long it doesnt matter where the RB should be lining up, its going to be a pass period. Now if these "tells" are happening on first and second down consistently, then it should be something addressed. If Baker is in Shotgun on 1st or 2nd Down, what Retard wouldnt know its probably a read option play?

    • So happy that LaMelo got the layup to go and *won* the game. How happy he was after the game, that's what a young dude like him needs to keep it going and keep the belief going. If we lose, LaMelo gets blamed, and he's got an offseason to be in his head and hear the noise like the last few years. The season might still have an ugly ending, but weirdly feels like last night was HUGE for this team moving forward.
    • My thoughts on Carolina's post-season run: Obviously, the season began with a below average Freddie Andersen and everyone hoping Kochetkov would pick up the slack, until he got hurt. Enter Brandon Bussi who had a made-for-TV movie type run until the end of the season, when he came crashing back to earth, his save % drops under .900 and the team needs to score 5-6 goals to win games. Freddie has shown signs of a resurgence and Bussi looked pretty good the last 2 games of the season, but both sample sizes are small and questions abound for all 3 goalies. The physicality of playoff hockey will take its toll. Save for a few players, the Canes best players are small, their top 2 lines are small and there's no getting around that. The only way to protect the size disadvantage is a strong forecheck. Allowing opposing teams to establish the offensive zone and create board battles with smaller players will hurt Carolina. The Stankoven line could be a difference-maker. If they continue to play well against lower defensive pairs, it only adds to the depth of the team.  The Aho line had stretches of absenteeism during the season. The Canes cannot afford to have them dry up offensively and leave the scoring to Ehlers and the Stankoven line. If they aren't performing well, teams will simply roll their best lines out on the Canes best playing lines.  If the Canes can get by Ottawa and get some help from Boston against Buffalo, I think they have a legit shot to make the finals. Make no mistake, I think their toughest challenges are Ottawa and Buffalo in the East.
