Baker was used to a decent OL. He doesn’t have that here. It’s all RB or nothing with this coaching.

The OL in CLE was not great, at least not in 3 of 4 years.

Regardless, this is the worst Mayfield there has been. Make up any reasons you like, but this is not even the same QB who played with one shoulder last year.

I was a fan of the move, but the big plays he’s made anyone could have made. Shows 0 that makes me believe he’s the answer at QB1

Another season, another below average QB leading the team. Bringing in below average QB’s is the only thing this franchise has been good at since Rhule got here.

Yup, I didn't expect him to be Tom Brady, or hell, even a more accurate comp in a guy like Brees, but I expected him to be good.  I expected him to be much better than what we have had the last 3 years (not including Cam in that, he will always be the goat).  But he hasn't been good.  He hasn't even been below average.  He has been bad.  And the more frustrating part, is it is INEXPLICABLY bad.  There's no realy reason for it.  Whether you know the offense, whether you're comfortable in the offense, or whatever, if a guy is open, you throw a football for a living, you should be able to hit him.  But he hasn't.  He has been wildly inaccurate.  Honestly, you could get a good amount of random Huddlers into the game for one play, and they could hit the throws he's missing.  They probably wouldn't be able to walk tomorrow and would likely mess their pants, but point being, some of these throws are simple pitch and catch, and he's missing badly.

Now, to be fair, some of the struggles are due to McAdoodoo and his horribly dated and inept prehistoric offense, because there are a ton of plays where there isn't open receivers.  But the issue is, the plays that ARE there, Baker is blowing.  He's bailing on the pocket early, he's not getting rid of the ball when nothing is there, often times he's running to pressure, and again, has just been wildly inaccurate.

I watched quite a bit of Baker in college and in Cleveland, and I believed in him.  But I was wrong.  At least so far...  I expected the flashes we saw from Cleveland.  2020 Baker was REALLY good and went toe to toe with Mahomes in the playoffs and came within a play or two of winning.  But none of that has been decipherable through 3 games...  as Rex said, he has the lowest QBR in the league.  I expected top 20 floor, a Top 10 ceiling.  He has been bad.  Really bad.  And surprisingly bad, especially for many of us to have had only reasonable expectations.

I watched all of Mayfield's games in Cleveland, and this looks like, for the first time, the QB all the Mayfield-hater's described. 

There are so many possible reasons that could explain his poo play - from the lack of time to gel, to poor recovery from last years injury, to the yips, to the high school offense, to being 'ruined'. However, it doesn't really matter.

He's going to have to transcend it all, or he's running the real risk of ending up a backup next year and getting bench this year. Mayfield made his bones as an underdog overcoming adversity, so, if he can tap into that and transcend the excuses, he's got a chance -- because the Carolina offense, except for the second half of game one, has been the worst I've seen Mayfield play in (worse than the Kitchen's season even). 

Aside from the bottom tier QB play, i've been surprised about Mayfield's demeanor. He's carrying himself like he's on Prozac or something. He seems muted, detached. I imagine it might be because of his past issues and trying to stay professional, but I can't help but wonder if that's killing his spark.

PFF final OL rankings

2021 - 8th

2020- 1st

2018 - 2nd 

2019 is the only season they graded poorly per them.  

I would assume the run blocking and scheme played into those rankings.  They probably wouldn’t rank that well running McAdoo’s bullpoo.

And to think that a lot of Huddlers thought that Rhule's handling--mishandling of Matt Corral's development was a reasonable course of action. It wasn't. He never seriously got the kid involved, treating him like an afterthought, and put him behind a sieve of an O-line and said in so many words that Corral had to make lemonade out of lemons. The way Rhule treated Corral was stupid! 

Huddlers took Baker and Corral--in a different way of course--for granted.

At this point, Darnold might give us more spark than Baker, and I never thought that I or anyone would say that. Baker seems smaller, in all respects, than I ever thought was possible.

It’s pretty hard for a QB to have his foot up everyone’s ass when the coaches already do that. Rhule takes his failures out on the team. That is well documented.

Run blocking grades were always higher for CLE's lines. 

I would double check that 2nd in 2018 - I don't recall them being higher than 12-18th.

In 2021 his tackles were not good. Guards/center were always the strong suit. In 2021, Mayfield was pressured on 8.9% of his dropbacks, .3% higher than Joe Burrow and his infamously bad line. 

2020 the line was legit and uninjured.

...and he should... ur a WR...ur craft is to get open...not jog around and hope u happen to get open... except for broken plays...nobody is open...it seems.
