By god, it’s Marty Hurney’s ghost…

Which is another reason I think Fitterer stays. He never got the chance to choose his HC. Rhule was Marty’s choice after he gorged himself on the meatballs.

Rhule was Tepper's choice. Fitts was probably Rhules choice, hopefully he's gone too.

Who did he fly out there with?

The richest owner in the league personally flew out to meet a coaching candidate, and even sat in his driveway waiting for him to come home. Are you serious? Hurney would have hired someone within the league.

Marty led the search that picked Rhule as a candidate. And according to Tepper's own story, he was the first one to recognize that Rhule was "their guy" and they needed to go into "recruiting mode".

As far as Tepper flying out, that was largely for logistic reasons because Rhule's family was just returning from vacation. Tepper met personally with every single candidate.

I DEFINITELY wouldn't have given Rhule the contract that he had; but who's to say he didn't just look very great on paper and in person....and just couldn't execute.

Hell, even Joe Brady when we got him was considered some sort of a genius and on that Sean McVay path, that a LOT of teams were taking seriously.

Joe Brady was a scapegoat for Rhule.

We actually scored and had an offense when he was here.  He deserved a lot better.

Hurney must have really wanted him to give him an unprecedented seven year 62 million dollar contract.

Poor Tepper. Marty made him fly all the way out there.

    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
    • Cos he looks much better?
