such an L trade for the bears.

I’m not sure I see this as an L. Fields gets a weapon and the Bears weren’t going to pay Smith the money he wanted. They had half a year left on Smith and a year and a half with Claypool. Next years Bears team will have Mooney, Claypool and a first round WR to go along with 125+m in cap space for defensive help.

Is he though? Fields works with Mooney. Is Mooney significantly better than Claypool? I don’t think so. Claypool is significantly better than everyone on the team outside of Mooney. This gives Fields two starting caliber WRs in the NFL. Claypool has gone over 850 yards two seasons in a row. How many Panthers make it to 850? Only DJ.

Looks like the Bears are using a similar approach to what the Panthers did years ago when we added big WR's in Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess to make up for Cam's inaccuracy.

Bears  WR's are now Claypool, N'Keal Harry, Equanimeous St. Brown

Mooney

    • Frank? When he came back his targets were XL, Coker, Moore, Tremble, Mingo and Jatavion Sanders. His major upgrade was Thielen when they played KC in his 4th game back. No knock on any of them. They were all great as role players, with potential for the young guys to be good eventually. But last year they all would have been the 3rd or 4th options on most every other team in the NFL.
    • I do think those that think Renfrow and AT are essentially the same are going to be either really mad or really happy.   Renfrow will not go out there and do what AT did.   I think folks happiness will come down to what Canales ask Renfrow to do in the O.
    • I think it sets up to be sorta similar to last year.   Hard to imagine the O is going to ready to be near whatever ceiling it will eventually have.  Young WRs, chemistry lacking, and all that gotta be worked out.   Canales isn’t really a creative guru so it’s really just going to be on them to get better and up to speed. but the schedule is rather favorable the first quarter or so.   in the end I think they sort of progress similar to last season.  D a constant.  O goes from weak to meh to sorta okay….but  the pass game will be asked to do too much and won the ready for that ask.
