That's the first question Fitterer should ask Wilks in his interview for the full time gig when the season is over.

The correct answer should be none.

The second question should be to give hima list of OC and DC he would pursue to run his offense and defense.

The answer to that determines whether there's any more questions.

Might depend on who we hire though.

Shane Steichen, for example. He and Wilks we're colleagues back in San Diego.

I'd be onboard with this hire.  I think you have to keep Campen and his understudy.  Our offensive line as looked better than any line we've had in the past 10 years.  Most of the credit needs to go to him.

I can't believe I am going to say this, especially with all of the criticism I leveled at the guy after he was hired on...

McAdoo might very well get the chance to stay as OC and right now, I'm not hating that. Since Rhule left town and McAdoo had a full week without the guy looking over his shoulder, we've logged a win and one helluva close game.

The difference in how our offense has played in the Tampa and Atlanta games versus all the others is pretty astounding. We look aggressive and we are beginning to start pushing the ball downfield. Also, the run game has moved into a pummeling, crushing instrument of destruction out there.

I'm not sold that McAdoo is the guy to keep, but he's making one helluva case for it, just like Wilks is.

And if we let our OLine and DLine coaching assistants go, we'll be making a huge mistake.

Edit to add: Honestly, I'm beginning to think we may have inadvertently found a good all-around coaching staff that can be competitive. We just had to get rid of Rhule to see them really work.

My theory is that McAdoo has just been delivering what his bosses wanted. During Wilk's half time interview during the Rams game he was asked about the offensive game plan (i.e. not throwing the ball downfield) Wilk's said that we were going to "stay the course." Which led to me believe that it was his call. Who know's, but I've had no complaints about the offensive play calling the last two games. It's possible that Wilk's is trying to let go of his Rivera-like tendencies and has taken the handcuffs off McAdoo/PJ.

I believe if they keep Wilks, you have to get an OC that no one is going to want to hire immediately after one decent year of offensive play. Me and my people were talking about a guy like Pep Hamilton who did a great job with Justin Herbert his rookie season, but that staff got none of the credit. I just know some young OC isn't going to inspire and garner the respect of Wilks. These players are playing inspired and it seems like just pulling the plug on that could be short sighted.

Campen is a no brainer answer to the first question. There's no reason not to want him back.

I'd go a step further and say there is every reason to aggressively pursue bringing him back.  It's been a night and day difference this year on our line.  I agree, some of it is personnel, but Campen certainly should get a lot of credit.

Elflein now looks like a marginal starter to solid backup after . . . last year.

Icky is making very strong strides as a rookie.

BC is successfully transitioning to guard.  Growing pains, yes, but he's playing pretty well.

Some people are saying Moton has regressed, but I really think the dude was playing hurt earlier and is finally getting healthy.

My thing is, you mentioned Justin Herbert... Honestly, I think the guy is another Phillip Rivers or Carson Palmer... all the stat guys bring them up and they get a lot of love from the pundits, but there they are just kind of spinning their wheels, never winning enough games to get their teams anywhere.

I was mentioning him to talk about Pep Hamilton. He surprised a lot of people with how quickly he took to pro game and Hamilton was his QB coach. I feel like Herbert definitely can get better, but their team stays mired in injuries. His WRs are always hurt(K. Allen this year), they have lineman hurt, and injuries at RB currently. Then last year they had defensive injuries across the board.

I’m growing more impressed with our overall play. The difference is night and day. If we continue on this upward trajectory, I’d be fine with keeping the majority of our coaching staff in place IF Wilks stays on as HC. I’m on the fence about the DC - I’m not completely sold on Al yet but will give it time.

Yeah, we've heard these things before from those other guys I mentioned, too. Herbert's got to prove himself someday.

    • The leadership angle is awkward. Number one he is not a loud personality. And you need performance to back up talk because leadership is not don’t do as I do, do as I say. You have to do your job right. If he can get it together on the field they will listen to him, it has to be lead by your actions first.
