No roster is ever perfect. You're always going to have needs and spots you'd like to upgrade.

This is a fact that is often ignored here.  The "we're 5 years away from contending because we don't have first team all pros at every spot" crowd things we have to be great everywhere to compete.  We're a coaching staff and QB away from being legit contenders.  That's it.  We could improve at TE, DE2, MLB, WR3, CB depth sure.  But outside the QB position our roster is better than most of the league, including a lot of teams going to the playoffs.  Unfortunately, the QB position is pretty critical.

I'd trade up to this and next year's firsts and seconds.  Leaves us with a first this year (the QB), a second, two thirds, and whatever else we have this year, and an abbreviated draft next year.  We could probably trade down our second or trade away one of our thirds to get back a second next year leaving us just missing a first next year.  QB is way more important than that.

This is where those CMC picks come in handy for us. Although they’re not going to have a ton of value since SF may win the SB it doesn’t leave our cupboard bare which is important.

We send our 1st this year (duh) and next years 1. Then we could send our second (keep SF 2nd) and a few of those CMC picks. It’s going to take a lot to go from 9 to 2 especially when leapfrogging a bunch of QB needy teams. Plus Chicago would be trading out of a spot in which they would be getting their number 1 overall player on their board.

At some point they’re going to need to make a move for a QB and the time is now. Given where we are with our cap space situation a rookie QB deal is needed. We have a solid OL locked up along with some other decent pieces. With the right coaching this isn’t the worst situation a rookie could be stepping into.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
