Another Special Juan clickbait thread (aka nothing to see here)

ESPN's David Newton believes it is "doubtful" the team will make a run at a "high-priced" veteran quarterback such as Derek Carr.

Meanwhile, it is presented as "possible" that a "bargain-priced" quarterback could be added, and also as possible that the team will re-sign Sam Darnold. The Panthers are only expected to clear to about $15-$20 million in cap space this offseason, which would make it hard to go after the top of the quarterback market. It's beyond plausible that Darnold gets another prove-it deal after missing the start of last season with a high-ankle sprain and playing decently down the stretch. Newton writes to expect the Panthers to focus on quarterback in the draft, even if that means trading up from No. 9 overall -- Darnold could be the bridge to that new quarterback, or potentially to Matt Corral if the Panthers won't pay the price to select a quarterback early

Might as well roll with Sam as long as we go QB in round one. Let him start the season and our new kid play when he’s ready.

We want to make the playoffs not be limited because our QB is a liability.
Which Darnold will always be. He has, maybe 3 to 4 “ good” games in him and then he falls off a cliff.
He isn’t a QB you want starting all season. .

Whomever we sign as the bridge, I would imagine that Reich will have major input into that decision.  If Darnell is not brought back, either his agent is asking for too rich a contract or Reich has determined that there are better options to hitch his wagon to until the rookie drafted is ready.  Will be interesting to see where this goes.

Every time I see Darnold possibly STILL being on this team I get physically ill. He is like a rash that won’t go away.
Darnold you suck please just go the eff away.

Be that as it may, he’s still the best QB we’ve had since Cam’s shoulder died.

edit: to clarify, I’d be fine with bringing him back cheap to be a bridge/backup to whomever we draft in the first this year, not as a long term plan.

    • Jeremy Fowler draft intel on the Panthers: “Carolina was high on Proctor. If he somehow slipped to 19, he was a viable option.” “Caleb Lomu was on the Panthers short list too.” “Panthers weren’t totally comfortable with Stowers there at 49.”   https://x.com/panthersontap/status/2049827264972353727?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
