There is as much tape on Corral as there are on any QBs in this draft.  I don't know what the rules are about a coach getting with a player on their own time but Corral has been out of his boot for well over 3 months now and should be able to start throwing and working on his craft.

Should Corral and McCown get the opportunity to work some it will greatly help in the decision on whether we HAVE to draft a QB or COULD draft a QB.

They're not allowed to talk to players before OTAs.

If a player was working out in the weight room he wouldn't even be allowed to ask the strength coach questions.

It's stupid. Players can't seek out the coaches voluntarily to improve themselves and coaches can't seek out the players.

First of all he is a better passer than AR15 that's a fact.

Second it does take all 11 people doing their job on offense.

If he was signed for 8mil like I want and if he improves as much next year as he did this year he'd be great.

I've said it a thousand times.

Draft someone in the next 2 years.

Sign Sam for pennies

Have MC9

Let the cream rise to the top.

That's a far cry from ZOMG Sign Sam to a 8yr deal 40 mil per.

Why don’t you think Sam can be our franchise QB?

He's still young and played much better at the end of the season outside of the New Orleans game. If I were the GM, I wouldn't trade our pick and if one of the QBs land in our lap I would take him.  Most mocks I have seen has one of the top four QBs fall to us.  I would select that QB and go into camp with Darnold, Corral and the rookie.  All of them on an equal plateau.  No one really slotted above the other. Let them battle it out.

Darnold, IMO, would have the upper hand because he has the experience.  Reich and McCown would have their hands full with improving Darnold and developing Corral and the rookie. It would be a huge upgrade over the QB room we had last year.

I think Darnold could be had at a very decent price.  Going after another Vet might just cost us more and take away from other positions that we might try to upgrade.

I don't think anyone can be our franchise QB until they become our franchise QB.

Even with picks unless it's Payton Manning Or Marino coming out (someone that's absolutely can't miss prospect)

If Sam can keep this progression up yes he could be the guy. It's worth an 8mil gamble. If he doesn't pay off you didn't lose anything.

Vs say Signing Lamar who really hasn't done much losing multiple draft picks and having tons of Cap tied up in one guy is a huge huge gamble.

Risk vs reward.

Here's my issue with Lamar.  They guy wants a ton of money.  Most of these QBs that demand so much money end up hurting the team.  They have so much money tied up in one player that you end up skimping on other positions.

I love Lamar but what he wants in a contract is too rich for me.

No

they’d have to go with his pre draft evaluation and whatever info they can get how he looked in camp.

Which won’t be enough to prevent us from taking one of these top 4 QBs if available.

So... the tape that made him go in the third round.

Another QB will(must) be drafted.

This approach makes way too much sense.

McCown "mentoring/helping" Sam his rookie year isn't a glowing resume item imo. Sam was trash and still is trash. He can't read opposing defenses or make big time throws. Soooo he's not a NFL QB, move on....move on....move on!

He cannot stay healthy and he loses his mind in the slightest of pressure.  We gave him generational wealth unnecessarily and his ass can hit the road asap.  He could play for free and I still wouldnt want him

Dude for like the umpteenth time, if we draft a guy in the top 10 that qb is getting all the love.  All the reps etc.  They will not treat any of them on a "equal plateau" they will use all their resources in getting that qb up to speed as quickly as humanly possible.

    • I was watching a YouTube and it was said that scout and GM insider types were saying the NIL had killed rounds 4-7. I don’t know that I buy it, seems like it might for a year or maybe two but then those guys have to move on.  NCAA is apparently about to give 5 years of eligibility. It is gonna skew those entrants older maybe.
    • Miller being less raw and more pro ready makes sense of why they picked him. With us having a capable starter in Walker the lower floor higher ceiling player makes sense for us as well. I agree with that.
    • I'm from Michigan and have had this discussion with my Lions friends, and they all agree with me, they were never going to take Freeling over Miller.  As, yes, you are correct, they could have left Sewell at RT and taken Freeling, but they are in a SB contention window right now. An OL with Freeling at LT and Sewell at RT is not as strong as Sewell at LT and Miller at RT would be for this upcoming season and likely at least next year as well. 5 years it could be looked back upon as a long term "mistake" to take Miller over Freeling, but for a franchise like the Lions, you can't worry about the long term when you have current SB aspirations.  It's all about maximizing their current SB window over the next 1-3 years. And it's not about style, it's about day 1 readiness, and a lot of "experts" aren't even sure if Freeling is ready to play Week 1 yet at the position he's used to, let alone switching to a side he hasn't played before, but a career starting RT is going to be more than ready to fill that role for them Week 1. I'm 100% convinced that if our draft positioning was swapped, we'd have still taken Freeling, they'd have still taken Miller, and both teams would have got the OT that they preferred due to what each team needs right now and what their current realistic aspirations are for the 2026 season. We're in a position where we can let our drafted OT sit and learn for a bit, they needed a week 1 starter, for me that's where this discussion becomes very easy to understand why each team took the player they did.
