What is it with this fanbase and their love for bridge vet QB's?

So you want to trade half the draft this year and a one next year (and probably a player), to get a rookie who could possibly bust. Meh

That's the only way you will be able to get Stroud or Young.

What else can we do just sit back and continue to sign bridge QB's every year?

No.

You evaluate all the QBs in the draft on the same sheet. Then you determine chance and level of success vs cost to acquire vs RoI. You figure out how much you can put around each with the salary cap and draft picks after signing each. Then you determine the overall place that puts your entire team and you go from there. The new coaching staff may not have Young or Stroud as the 1st and 2nd ranked QB after their evaluations are finished. It may be AR. It could be Levis. Hell, it could be Duggan. There's so many parts to building a winning team. It's not just pick a QB, insert here, pick up your SB ring at the end of the season.

Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers to name a few, all sat behind bridge or aging QBs for a little while until they took over. When done right, it is the best situation for a rookie to come in and learn from a vet and not have all the pressure on him. The best situation for us would be to get Carr as a bridge, who is better than all the ones we got in the past, and draft Stroud. Then let Stroud take over when he is ready.

So pay Carr 30mil a year to mentor a QB when we can just get Brisset for much cheaper and already knows the system...

Stroud doesn't need 3 years to learn how to play in the NFL. He can play in year 1. It makes no sense to spend money on Carr then have Stroud just sit for 3 years.lol

Nobody mentioned winning the SB.

My point of this post is to draft our franchise guy and develop him. Why do we keep taking on other teams QB's expecting them to make us a better team. That's not how you build stability within the franchise.

We been playing musical chairs with QB's for 3 years.

Don't you think it's time to go draft a QB and develop them?

I think it's time to do what's in the best interests of the franchise. If that's Carr, Jimmy G, LJ, Young, Stroud  etc so be it.

The biggest problem with our QB valuation for the past 3 years was Matt fugging Rhule. We now have some real NFL people in charge. Let them do what they need to do.

I'm not enamored with Carr, and I'm not convinced that he'd provide us the best value for our money. Sure, he may be better than what we've had in awhile, but he's not exactly lighting the world on fire, especially in the win-loss column. He had weapons, but still just couldn't get it done this past season. That's a red flag.

If the money is right you take him and dont look back...

Im seeing a lot of members saying they wouldn't be mad at signing a 32 year old Carr for 30mil a year and using the #9 pick on another position.

I don't get why people continue to repeat the same trend as we have for the past 3 years. This franchise has gone downhill ever since Cam got injured. There was a time we had a true franchise star QB Cam Newton. We happened to make it to the Super Bowl and dominated the regular season because we had a true star QB who could take over games.

Derek Carr no disrespect but he's a JAG. There is no upside with him. He's not taking us to a SB. I thought the goal was to finally get our franchise QB instead we look to be headed in the same direction as the last 3 years. Taking someone else castoff QB and expecting them to turn our franchise around. Carr literally has 1 playoff appearance in his entire 9 year career. Yet people are totally fine giving him 30 mil a year to take this team nowhere for the next 3-4 years. It's a reason the Raiders are moving on from him. Carr is a trap and we are falling for it again. Just like Mayfield, Darnold, Bridgewater.

Why do you guys continue to fall for these vet castoff QB's that become available every offseason?

It's not that they fall in love with the vet, they fall in love with the idea of drafting the "sure thing" non-QB in the draft.

Fact is that unless you have the #1 pick in a year that has a generational type prospect (Luck or Lawrence types) there is pretty much always a non QB that feels a lot safer to a large section of any fanbase.

Because this board is wanting to win, and at the same time banking their hopes on Anthony Richardson at 9, bringing Sam Darnold back as a bridge becuase he "improved" last year, and Matt Corral, which would equal another 6-11 season and a huge meltdown here

1. Carr isn’t JAG. The mistake has been targeting young and unproven QB under 25 or so and handing them the keys after they flat tired another organization and hoping their lack of success was circumstances. Carr has won in this league. He will have to answer the playoff questions, but he’s not Baker Mayfield. He can ball. This is a proven starter. 4 time PB with 35k passing yards  200+ TD  91.8 career passer rating good for 25th all time  Top 40 all time in attempts, completions, and yardage. He would immediately become the 2nd best we’ve ever had here.

2. There are just as many posters here infatuated with the idea of taking a QB in this draft even if he sucks rather than putting the best option back there. We have been in rebuilding mode with Rhule for like 3 years. This team is ready in many ways, but that hole at QB is glaring. It’s doubtful that anyone we can take at 9 is going to answer that question. They would rather have a fresh pair of socks full of holes than a gently used pair that more than get the job done.

3. We need to prove to our team and fans that we want to win. Rhule set this franchise back a decade with his nonsense. We are assembling a staff not built for a tank year. Too much talent.

This franchise loves those meaningless moral victory type games that screw up draft position. We are stuck in purgatory like the Hornets…but they are even worse.

This is such a myth. The players and coaches are paid to win games, period.  Tell them to tank a game and see what happens.

    • Never been. Going to a concert there Thursday night. Decent tailgating opportunities in the parking area or no? I see people are going to the beer hall to grab a beer to get their parking validated. Seems like a good plan to me. I'd like to smoke a brisket and do a decent spread of food but I just don't know if the parking setup allows for it.

    • Bryce also has a degree in psychology. He has an uncanny ability to compartmentalize things in a way that allows him to enter his second NFL season with optimism that he can still be the player who was worthy of being the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft despite the kind of rookie year that has destroyed others in his position. Young credits that in part to his past. He graduated from the University of Alabama in three years with a degree in psychology. His father was a therapist in the mental health field for 20 years. His mother was a special education teacher, and his grandfather was a psychologist. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40334565/bryce-young-developing-leader-panthers-year-2
