His "instincts" look off, because he doesn't have quarterbacking instincts....he didn't play enough.

What I see is a guy who knows what he's looking at, or at least has a good idea of what he's looking at, but if the play isn't executed precisely, and isn't defended as he assumed it would....he's not real good after that.

I think that as athletes, it's good to play multiple sports...but as a starting college or NFL QB?  Probably best to dial that in solely for a few years leading into D1 if you are that good.  Just a position that coaches have made very tough to succeed at.

It all goes back to not being able to revert to instinct read and react. He's constantly trying to consciously think his way through things and that just happens too slowly to work in the NFL. When Darnold looks good is when either his first read is open or he gets immediate pressure and has to go to his check down immediately. When he has to come off of his first read and start trying to go through his progression... uh oh. He stays on his first read too long and by then it's basically panic time.

Yup, agreed.  If it's a rapid fire decision, pre determined prior to the ball coming out....he's fine.  Need a 5 or a 7 step drop, and to get to your 2nd or 3rd option after the first slips or is being covered well.....In steps the Sam we all know and love.

Usually if an NFL QB has time to survey the field he's gonna absolutely carve a D up. It's the opposite with Darnold. When he's standing in a clean pocket and has time to survey the field it's probably not gonna be good. I would honestly just blitz Darnold enough to keep the opposing OC respecting the possibility. My primary goal would be to play contain and coverage because I know Darnold is gonna throw some balls in those scenarios that give my guys a great opportunity for the INT.

  • 1 month later...

Ah Huddle, how you entertain me.

Last month when the S2 thread came out ppl were like alrighty, just get a QB with a high score. This month? Ugh, it's just another test, don't read too much into it.

Never change Huddle. You are special, you are worthy, and dang it, ppl like you.

    • I did not want to start or even think about *if* BY reverts back to pre-non last 9 games.   There is a lane in which Panthers are looking QB after this season, I feel its higher than most will realize. I mean....not kidding... has any team ever traded up to 1st overall twice in the teams history? I don't even want to think within 3 years, just foresee Tepper squeezing Dans and Brandts sacs to the point were they are forced to trade up for a another savior.....   The kicker is I feel this way with BY playing good-great..... I think there with be non-fixable problems for contract negotiations between BY&reps vs Panthers org on the whole. You can not pay 50+ million per over few years with 70% guarantees for 3,303 yards 15 TDs and 9 INTs......Cursed I tell you....
    • It's not surprising, but it's still surprising that many of these guys don't manage their money in such a way that provides them and their families a better lifestyle than most for the rest of their lives without even working a nine-to-five. I can't imagine making over a 100 mil for a decade and ultimately ruminating about supporting my family due to financial issues.
    • That why i mentioned the KC dynasty. Those three different playoff loses were not Allens fault, in fact 1-2 plays and Bills win. KC just have better players and better coaches and more luck.  Defense-wise, Bills have been trying to crack the Reid-Halhomes magic. Its near impossible with rules and KC home field advantage. Spags has started to force the league in naming him the best DC in NFL history. I agree if you take away Bill bielacheat.... Add in Andy Reid the best QB coach and brilliant play designer/play-caller, I mean that's too much for one QB to over-come on his own.  Just trolling or not, bad is bad scot. Allen is legit as any one QB has ever been.
