The Ravens can’t be this dumb? They’re a smart organization right?

If they hit Lamar with a non exclusive franchise tag that means it’s negotiate with Lamar and if he agrees it’s only 2 first round picks to Baltimore. That would be a fleece job for a top 5 QB in his prime.

last time CAR did that, we landed Sean Gilbert

From what I've read, there doesn't seem to be any indication so far that the Panthers are exploring this as an option.

If I remember correctly Tepper didn't want to pay a fully guaranteed contract when it came down to Watson ( smart ), so I doubt we will be looking here.

Lamar isn't signing unless he gets a fully guaranteed contract.  The only chance the Ravens have of moving him off that stance is to put in a position to find out if there is any team willing to give him that.  If not, then Lamar will have no choice but to alter his demands.

This is the right move by the Ravens. Sounds like they want to prove to Lamar that they offering him a good deal, or they are done with it and want to get something in return. 2 first round picks is nothing to bat an eye lash at. Thats a good return for Lamar considering his demands.

Also, according to Peter King, the market may not be what people think.

If a team wants Jackson, it’s disguising its intentions well. I couldn’t find legit evidence of one in Indianapolis, talking to GMs and coaches and other club officials. There may be one (Jets? Falcons?) but I couldn’t find it. And if the Ravens put the non-exclusive tag on Jackson, good luck in forcing him to play in 2023 for $32 million ($4.2 million less than Ryan Tannehill’s slated cap number) after visions of jillions have been dancing in his head.

He wants to get paid, but the contract doesn't necessarily have to be fully guaranteed.

Stephen A Smith is pretty much the only guy who's said that and it became pretty obvious that Jackson's camp was using him as a mouthpiece.

Smith isn't exactly what you'd call a journalist.

I like Stephen A, but I'll trust the reporting we have heard over the last 6 or however many months over him.  He's more connected to the NBA than the NFL.

Not saying he's wrong.  Him/his source could be right! But until other sources chime in saying the same thing, then my belief is that Jackson is searching for a contract in the same vein as Watson's.

Plus, no high-end QB has signed a long-term extension since then right?  It makes sense as to why he would expect that.

Why not? He has the experience, the career and the degree. So...

    • at some point, though, you just have to suck it up and accept it and deal with the bad deal you got.  you go through funks where you keep making mistakes and hope that you get it figured out sometime soon, but in the learning process you realize you could have done some things better but you're stuck with decisions you make. you have two choices...whine about it or just brush it off and hope can make the situation you put yourself work. i know a lot of people in here have probably never experienced or dealt with failure much in their lives, but i have and i learned to just suck it up and try to make the best of the situation you've got yourself in because you realize that you're stuck with it for a while. doesn't do any good to keep harping over what you wish you had done better. you already know that. now it's just about moving forward from here and making the best of it and hoping you can make something of it. it's the easiest thing in the world to look at where Bryce falls short...and yes, that was intentional. everyone knows that and all that is done is beating that horse laying on the ground. what takes some work is trying to see how it can work and if they have done and are doing things to help the situation get better.
    • I completely agree. Guys like David Carr and Darnold have all the potential in the world but really could have benefited from sitting for a few years.
    • I will go to my grave thinking that some qbs simply need to sit for a spell and not start immediately and that having multiple head coaches and oc's in the first few years is a sure fire way to ruin a qb.  Having to learn new schemes, new terminology etc while having to learn to lead in the nfl is simply too much for the majority of qbs.  I know it sucks for the fans but look at KC situation.  That had a great vet mentor to mahoomes and simply let him learn with absolutely no pressure in his rookie year.  Not sure why more teams are not following that model.
