Brinson basically calls "collusion," but essentially says it's nearly impossible to prove

No doubt all owners talked about the Browns contract with the creep and said it was crazy. But there are two other main concerns here:

1) The injury history the last two years is not good.

2) Ravens are not known for being a cheap organization. If they can’t come to an agreement with their star QB after negotiating for two years… Other teams for sure have a rough idea what Lamar is asking for and don’t think it is worth their time.

So did CMC and we saw how that played out as soon as he got to a different team. The Ravens have a lot going on in their organization and it’s not good. You should read up on it. I’d take Lamar over Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, and Geno Smith.

The big difference with the CMC comparison is that the Niners were trading for a player with an existing contract AND we were eating all the guaranteed money. They can release CMC at any given time with no cap repercussions.

I called collusion as soon as all the teams started dropping those tweets about not being interested. Then you see the players tweeting about it.

This is the owners saying "The Watson contract is not the new standard". Add in Lamar is represented by his mom. No way the owners are going to easily pay Lamar that contract.

He will likely be a Raven unless some team doesn't get a QB in the draft which likely might be us especially if we don't trade up for a QB.

Are teams "dropping tweets" or are reporters asking people direct questions, and then reporting what they are told?

Could it be that teams may not be telling the "whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help them God" during lying season?

Again owners aren't stupid enough to collude, all they have to do is, not a damn thing.

Yup, if Lamar had already signed with the Ravens, and we were trading two 1's for him, taking on the contract, and they were eating about 50% of it due to 1st year payouts and the cap implications for trading him??????

Yea, I'm in for that, so long as there are 3 years left on the deal.

Will Brinson says what many are thinking:

"The idea of Baltimore dangling Lamar to the entire league, and no one having ANY INTEREST WHATSOEVER, is just wild. A 26-year-old former MVP simply DOES NOT become available in the NFL with no interest from other teams.

"And not just no interest but a very quick lack of interest from a host of teams who have been aggressively pursuing quarterback solutions for the last 3-5 years.

"There's a virtually zero percent chance of anything happening here. Good luck proving a bunch of NFL owners don't want to acquire Lamar Jackson simply to suppress a rogue contract given to another player in a similar situation just a year ago. But that reality makes a lot more sense than the idea of no one even wanting to consider acquiring a 26-year-old former MVP."

Yeah, he pretty much lays it all out, including using the Panthers as a prime example of how nonsensical all this is.

"The Carolina Panthers are largely irrelevant on a national stage. The Panthers with Lamar Freaking Jackson? That's a team getting multiple primetime games every year and the immediate favorite to win the NFC South..."

Yeah, we've been largely irrelevant on a national stage since Cam's downfall. It still stings for Brinson to say it. People, especially in NFL circles, have bought into the narrative of Moneybags Tepper being hellbent on landing a franchise QB though, even if it makes him seem kinda like a clown (at least how Brinson wrote it).

"David Tepper has been rejected multiple times in an attempt to trade for a franchise quarterback, including Watson, Matthew Stafford and -- not even joking here -- Carson Wentz. Lamar Jackson's on the block and he doesn't even want to check in on what it might take to acquire him? Again, sure."

I mean I think that it's only the naive that can't smell a rat. There certainly seems to be something fishy going on, but as an old Fox used to say, "It is, what it is." Not paying Lamar like Deshaun Watson has obvious justifications. Hell, not paying Watson like Watson had justifications. Mind you, this Lamar Jackson story is far from over, but we'll see what happens when the brash and charismatic Joe Burrow is on deck.

Brinson's piece is compelling to say the least.

It's collusion to not want to give a QB who has missed time in three of the last five seasons $250 million guaranteed?

I think that that's a somewhat simplistic perspective, especially in light of the fact that the qb-needy teams in question all came out at relatively the same time with essentially the same tweet: "Not interested!"  And they didn't even officially kick the tires on him to see what his actual needs are?  Are you kidding me? We don't even really know what Lamar is demanding because no one has offered him anything but the Ravens pre-tag. But it's all a coincidence...

Speculation that was tossed around on nfl network is that teams already knew what he was looking for.

But, how could they possibly know that...unless they were talking among themselves about it...?

We know what the Ravens offered, no?

If he won't accept that, then we know it must be higher than that?

What if that is too rich for our taste in Lamar?

Thats silly.  Giving up two firsts and a huge guranteed contract kills your roster.  It makes it almost impossible to build the roster overall.  Add in the fact that he has started to have injury issues, and he has looked not very good at all in the playoffs, and the fact that the ravens have no interest in giving him what he wants.   He overestimated his value.   Sometimes when you gamble on yourself, you lose.  None of that says collusion to me.  A lot of nfl fans, especially on the huddle it seems like sometimes, overvalue highlights.

He hasn't lost, per say, he just won't win as big as he was hoping.

He's going to get PAID.  Life changing money, generational money.  He's learning a VERY valuable lesson right now.
