Which QB Best Fits Reichs RPO Style Offense?

I think Cam maybe muddied the waters for some casual football fans. The QB isn't the running option in the RPO! The RB is the running option because the O-line is run blocking! No one knows what the QB is going to decide, they just do their jobs which is why it throws defenses off.

The verbiage is similar to “Read Option “ and they both kind of became popular phrases for media talking heads around the same time. Also, to your point, we sort of blended the two with Cam.

Cam sort of allowed us to run a triple threat option rather than a true RPO.

That being said, I still think that over the long run the QB with better processing ability will beat out the more gifted athlete. So many times the athletic mobile QB creates a game of one vs. 11, rather than 11 vs 11.

It only makes sense to just keep 2 QBs on the roster after we select one overall. If you get down to your 3rd, then its over anyway.

I think they’ll keep 3. Hopefully the 3rd is Corral, not Eason. Keep Corral and develop him, showcase him next preseason, and hopefully get something in return in a trade.

It's the most important position in all of sports - I've no idea why every team doesn't keep 3 on the roster at all times. You should always be developing someone.

If you are running / going to run a heavy RPO offense, you don't get rid of Matt Corral.  He was really good at that in college.  That said, I'm not sure that's really Reich's system to date.  He likes the play action.  Maybe the influence of Thomas Brown will send us down a different path.

In any event, ideally, if Corral isn't the guy we want, our best outcome is to showcase him and get something back.  Even a fourth is better than nothing.

Some QB's you can just look at and see they aren't NFL level talent.

Im getting Jimmy Clausen vibes with Corral.

I don't think there's any vibes to get yet. He was only getting 2 or 3 snaps in practice last year and Rhule was focusing on him getting those high quality mental reps instead. He may end up being Pickles 2.0. It's just way too soon to tell without letting him get some practice.

Or find out he's a good backup

    • I believe Lloyd will elevate not just the whole unit, but also whoever his running mate is. Wallace is still very young, I think he's only 23 with two years of exp now. Cherelus can handle starting, he's just fighting with staying healthy. Kuwatch I think is going to be a contender after a couple week of understanding the system.  I mean Lee will be against..... what nearly 10 NFL-level WRs, he's going to get work and its up to him if he can hang.  I think its fair to expect 12th +/- 3 or 4 spots.  You know this, it boils down to how healthy everyone stays.....cause if dbrown, horn, Lloyd, Michael Jackson, or tervon miss extended time.....no way 10th can be reached. IF all the names above remain haethly, I do think 10th should be the goal. They are a young unit and added talent to a 16th ranked unit. Its time to march forward!!
    • Varying degrees all around but it starts at the top. That is where the buck stops. It has been 8 years of stupid, long before Morgan came back. Or Tillis was hired. Made it to the top of stupid mountain in 2023. Stayed in stupid limbo for a while, now we are prepping to scale the next mountain. In this case, I like those guys’ roster building better than what we have had so I am okay with them as our current pawns in the game of Bryce.
    • Don't let me gas him up too much, but I hear this and that...... I seen a wide body man with a quick burst, that's able to shed blocks and if extends his long arms its over. He tore up the OL in the senior, you seen about 10 plays and the dog walking OLman. There's other plays of him doing the same, just have to deal with fetus talking over the plays. Plus there's this-  https://x.com/PFF_College/status/2018385471068332410?lang=en     I hope he's ready, cause Id like to see him starting and doing his thang with dbrown, nic, and Phillips.
