Deandre Hopkins is a FA

Do we need another receiver that will keep our younger guys on the bench and inhibit their development? Mingo and TMJ are our future, we have to get them game time and make sure they both develop especially TMJ. This year is crucial for him. Probably an unpopular opinion but I would let Hopkins go somewhere else at this point in an attempt to se what we have with young guys and who can develop with playing time on the field.

I don't see the team being interested to begin with

It's good you know what an overpay is. Not sure why you needed to tell me what is was though...

Because you don’t seem to understand the meaning of overpay. By your own statement you want to pay a player more than he is worth to the team.

Are you asking if we can use a #1 WR?

What kind of question is that. Hopkins is not a cancer. Hell yes we need that kind of WR.

Ask Cam Newton who was his WR his best passing season. That vet Smitty was the best thing Cam ever had and that was his rookie year.

But having the addition of him also is going to slow down Mingo and TMJ's development. Yes he helps but counting on the younger players to develop much slower as he will be taking away learning time from them. Hopkins is good but he is definitely no Smitty

It doesn't slow down Mingo if anything it helps him especially since Hopkins would be receiving the double coverage.

Ask Thielen what is was like playing with a true #1 WR. It makes the #2 WR job so much easier.

I can't believe that people think Hopkins hurts the team.lol

Hopkins and Mingo both X.  They won’t be on the field the same time most plays.

Honestly, if we could sign Hopkins and then trade Chark, that would be the ideal scenario to me, as Chark is really the reason there isn't a clear open spot for Hopkins right now.

Thielen is the slot and TMJ/Mingo should be on the field at one outside spot and then when we go 4 wide, we have to see them get significant playing time unless they're just terrible.

Signing Hopkins would stunt one or both of their growth potential unless Chark gets relegated to minimal snaps.

^^^^ More like 20 million in cap space as Bryce hasn't signed yet, he'll count $7.5 million against the cap in year 1

Either way, I fully expect him to end up on a 1 year deal with a contender like KC or Buffalo.  Chase a ring, try to put together a full season of staying healthy and then get a better multi-year deal going into next year when he can go into the start of FA.

I always cringe when a Panther fan calls into the show. Yet to hear an intelligent take from any of them.

Me too.

You'll be happy to know that one Panther fan called in the other day (and, just like you, I cringed waiting for the usual) but this guy represented us well.  He had intelligent comments, intelligent questions and sounded like he had all his teeth.

So, ONE!

I wonder if we have enough to pay him? He definitely will not come cheap unless he cuts us a home town discount

    • Yes, but those guys aren't depth guard signings, they're likely going to wait and see who has injuries or players under performing and then sign there. I also think that if Ickey really is going to be able to play at some point this year, that's where our guard depth comes from.  As if he gets to the point of being active, we'd then have 3 LT's on the roster with him, Freeling, and Walker, gotta think one of them not named Freeling gets kicked inside if needed.
    • lol imagine being Hill and this is what your coach thinks about you replacing a guy giving up over 4 goals per game.
    • I don't think Tyreek is a bad player to play with on the field, for sure not in the same way that Diggs is, as he's a cancer on the field with how he acts, and wouldn't take kindly to being 2nd fiddle behind T-Mac. It's that Tyreek is just a terrible person who realistically shouldn't even be in the NFL, his insane athletic ability is why his off field transgressions have been overlooked.  If he was a WR3, no team would have kept him around, it was only that he was a 1st ballot HOF level talent that kept him around. Just zero interest in having a person like that around our young WRs, that's really all it comes down to for me with him. Again, if we were true contenders this year, that changes things and I'd rather bring in the best possible players and hope it works out.  But they're trying to build something here and to do that, you need high quality people, not just great talent.
