I don't see it either, a short athletic guard who can't shoot. Guess I'm missing something. It's like wanting Westbrook over Curry or Durant.

It’s like @WOW!!said. Scoot’s marketing team has him hyped up for years now. He actually didn’t progress as much this year as people projected but no one seems to care. He is a highlight reel which is what most of his fans see, but a 3 and D 6’9” shooter who has handles is a much more rare thing to come by. We already have a taller Scoot in Melo.

So Scoot has the "it factor" because he's athletic and can dunk on 6'9 defenders?

No disrespect, but if that's your reason for having the "it factor" then half the NBA has those players.

Scoot needs to develop a jumpshot. All that dunking is cool, but to win games you need to be able to shoot the basketball. Miller is arguably the best shooter in this draft. When you need a bucket Miller will always be a threat because of his shot making ability.

Scoot is the more exciting player, but Miller to me is the better overall player at 6'9 with guard skills and 3pt shot making ability. I think he will end up being a better player when all is said and done.

Harold Miner should have been the best SG ever by that definition…

Yes .. I like Scoot as a prospect but the analysis of his talents have gone overboard and possibly could set this kid up for failure.. Just based on living up to unrealistic expectations..

Exactly!

We as fans fall in love with the athletic rim attacking guards. I get it they are fun to watch, but every single one of them have never won a championship. They simply sell tickets and play exciting style basketball. At the end of the day can you shoot the basketball and make shots in late game situations when teams pack the paint to stop you from driving. It all comes down to is shot making.

Yes and the reality ppl don’t talk about is once the athleticism goes.. That player becomes a bad contract or a backup journey man.. If they don’t add the other stuff to their game..

This could have happened to us.. If you drafted Scoot .. Lamelo would have the same thought process.. You’re bringing in a PG when you already have a PG.. So taking away from both players being at their best..

Yep and Melo just extended with us. Miller is a much better fit and equal talent.

I agree but what if Scoot ends up being the next Air Jordan?

That would be truly incredible and something most people didn't see coming.  That's not a reason to draft a player one similarly ranked at a position you already have filled with a great player.

    • And as I asked this again before, what goes into PFF's man open %, as I know you've brought that stat up before. Is that just the number of routes he gets open at any point during the route, or is it calculated on targets and if he was open when the ball got to him. Because like I pointed out so many times in the lead up to the draft, a big reason it was harder for him to get separation against man was because he not only had his man on him, but he was double or triple teamed on the majority of his routes this past year.  Just because of that alone, it was easier for him to get open against zone coverage where he could find holes and sit in them. Also, again, as been discussed so many times, his QB's play this year was awful, and lots of times his contested catches were due to him not delivering the ball on time when T-Mac got open.  Or just times he got open but wasn't targeted for whatever reason. So just using that stat as a way to say he struggles to get open against man is more likely than not, disingenuous. Hell, it's a PFF stat that you're using against him, yet at the same time, PFF absolutely loves him, he was their 4th overall player.   I posted this clip on here a week or so ago of the T-Mac vs Hunter game in 2023, where the anti T-Mac guys like to say Hunter shut him down.  But numerous times in this video you see T-Mac create tons of separation from Hunter but the ball wasn't thrown his way, plus a clear PI that wasn't called (and the one that was). https://x.com/4MR_Fetti/status/1918262063660454227 The "he can't separate" narrative is way overblown and become something more myth than reality.  No, he's not an elite separator like some of the quick twitch WRs, but he's so much better than the haters here like to say.
