Did miss reading anything on the backup QB's. Been wondering how Corral is doing with missing last year.

There hasn't been much on him. He is getting the PJ Walker equivalent reps this TC, which is more than last year but still not a lot.

From the small clips I've seen here and there he still has plenty of zip on all his throws, I think he definitely has the strongest arm on the team.

the lack of corral intel is kindof surprising

He's a 3rd round pick from the previous regime who hasn't played meaningful football in over 2 years.

He got screwed the moment we drafted him unfortunately. I would love to see him turn it all around and become a stud, but the opportunities to do so will be few and far between.

The only way I see him getting some PT is if we are eliminated from playoff contention relatively early and BY gets hurt. If we're still in contention they'll throw Dalton out there to keep the ship steady until Bryce heals up, but if we are sucking they could play Corral to see what they have in him.

His journey to relevancy is going to be a long and difficult one.

I would have thought the team would be trying to drop info about how good he is doing etc etc etc in an attempt to trade him for anything.   Maybe the preseason games will tell us something

I don't think they plan on dealing him this year. Probably seeing what they have in him this season so they can see what to do with him next year. There was that new rule implemented because of what happened to SF where it's essentially a free roster spot for a QB on gamedays now.

But he may just not be any good at all.   I guess we will see shortly.  Game less than a week.   If he doesn’t play at least a full quarter or so then we may have our answer.

It's worth noting that with the 17-game season and injuries still piling up at the QB position that if Corral can show that he can learn + develop, he'll be a Panther as QB3.

The need for a 3rd QB has been seen for the last few seasons and with recent rule changes it's worth spending a spot on the 53 on a guy that you don't have to activate (but can still play should you need an emergency guy) on gameday.

Dalton's contract has him hear this season and next. They can cut him next season, but I think the team is hoping to roll with the current QB room for the next two seasons. After that, they'll assess where they're at and go from there.

A very reasonable take if you ask me. Corral doesn't have to set the world on fire, he just needs to keep improving. Taking what they give him and giving 100% back. He's either going to be our backup QB, maybe traded for assets, or just sent packing. It is an interesting situation to be sure. My advice? Sit back and enjoy the show.

Best case, he grows into something we can work with. Worst case, he doesn't.

I dont think its worth seeing how good a 3rd string QB is when you already have a franchise QB on the roster. Cut your losses and use the spot somewhere else.

You can't use that spot elsewhere, it's an emergency QB roster spot that doesn't count to your roster total on game days:

You gotta look at it like we have two rookie QBs this year since he didn't really do anything all of last year. We have him under contract for the next couple years for super cheap, there's no point in getting rid of him, especially if he can develop into a #2 down the line, or even into trade bait for the end of his contract.

He's already here, he's damm cheap, and he does have talent. There is no reasonable reason to get rid of him. It really does not cost us much to see if we cannot develop him into something of value. I know folks around here are not used to hearing "Develop" and thinking that's something we do. But it is now.

    • I mean in this economy, companies have to be smarter with their spending. Sending reporters to Charlotte to cover a moribund, Pop Warner-level franchise is the ultimate waste of money that should get execs fired. If the media were being kept out, they'd report that--it's the most self-important profession in the world. Even for the locals who know "Panthers suck yet again" stories get them no clicks. Bottom line, no conspiracy here. They're just not worth covering.
    • why cant they just let teams have their kicker kick it and then run off the field? Thats the only thing he can do and he also cant recover an onside. The kicking team will have 12 men to start, including the kicker, and then he runs off.  the new rule seems complicated. Not sure if Im going to like it or not. If they wanted more returns, they shouldve just gone back to the old way.
