Hey guys, it's 2011 not 2015.

I like Wilks.  Got no beef with Wilks.  I think the players liked him. BUT we weren’t a good football team under him.  We just happened to play a lot of teams that were amongst the worst in stopping the run or had horrific QBs.   When we played an actual playoff team we got smashed.  Early and hard.  Wasn’t even competitive for a quarter.  And that has nothing to do with Wilks being bad.  He didn’t have the talent to actually have a good football team and the 2022 Panthers weren’t a good team under him.

You are discrediting what he did by making excuses about the competition he played.

The QB's in this division are even worst than last year now that Brady is retired. We also have a weak schedule Miami/Jacksonville are our toughest opponents.

There is no excuse why we should make the playoffs this year. As a fan im trying to move forward. We can't keep making excuses for us sucking year after year. We changed the entire staff. We want results!

Remind me how many points Rivera and Newton scored in 2011? Then compare it to the league.

So, what expectations do we have for Reich and Young? Is it acceptable for them to be among the worst first year coach/QB combo the Panthers have had?

Should we expect Young to perform better than Delhomme in his first year with the Panthers? First year Delhomme should be held to a higher standard?

This is actually a fair bit of logic that I haven’t thought about. Bryce was treated, rightfully, as a prospect with no flaws and the only question around him was can he stay healthy? So if he is healthy, and has minimal flaws, should he not be held to the same standard as previous first round QBs? And then when you look at those QBs that were day 1 starters after being drafted, how many were in better situations than Young?

Burrow had more questions entering the draft than Young with the potential of being a one year wonder playing a fifth year of college ball playing against younger guys on a loaded team.

And Burrow had a worse offensive line than we do. Sanders to Mixon is basically a wash. We have solid TEs now and should have three solid pass cachers at WR. I don’t know how the bar can be lower than rookie year Burrow numbers.

Young should have 65%+ completions, 20 passing TDs and 3400+ yards. If we had this QB play last year we go to the playoffs. We should be competing for a playoff spot this year.

First year Cam and Delhomme had better talent around them than Bryce Young will this year.  Talent matters.

Bryce has the weakest talent around him

I’m acknowledging the actual play and opponents…..and not just the win.

again, to think we can win games scoring 10 points and a QB throwing for 40 yards this year vs the Saints as realistic??

we played crap teams and when we when stepped on the field vs a good team last year we got brutally stomped.

we weren’t good under Wilks.  We would play bad conservative football and it would allow us to compete vs bad teams that couldn’t stop the run.  But good football is not what we did last year.

We weren't good under Wilks but you telling me not to expect playoffs when we were 1 game away from making the playoffs with Wilks. So in other words Frank will not be much of an upgrade over Wilks either. Expectations are low if we aren't expecting a jump to the playoffs.

Do you understand this makes no sense?

This will be a losing season, just like 2011 was.

The fun in it is that we get to watch a young team grow into what we hope will be a playoff team.

By year 3 I suspect we will be there.

I agree with the watching the team grow..It’s one game. One preseason game, and everyone wants to draw conclusions and predict the future.  I’m not saying it’s gonna be a winning or losing season, I’m just along for the ride. The journey is the fun part.  Let it play out with no expectations

Wilks was smart enough to see our only path to wins was last year was to run the ball, control the clock, minimize the chances one of our QBs would throw the game away, and rely on pushing people around in the trenches.  It just happened to play into Wilks' own tendencies as a HC.

The problem with that is that it works until it doesn't.  When it didn't, we weren't good enough to have much else in the arsenal.

People citing that we were one win away from the playoffs also need to recognize that the entire division can say that.  It was not because we or anybody was good.

Are the playoffs even a possibility?  Well, the NFL still requires the NFCS to supply a team to the postseason, and until everybody proves otherwise, this is a doormat of a division that somebody has to win.....or at least not lose as bad as the other three.  But beyond that, people set their expectations at their own peril.

It is kinda hard for four teams to be as lacking for two consecutive years as as the four in the NFCS were last year.  Odds are somebody is going to improve.  But, all four still have significant question marks and "ifs" attached to their chances.

Your entire premise is based on being able to be “one game away” from postseason play this year if we were just as bad as last season.   And then you add upgrades and then add more wins.  Which isn’t how you can/should look at it.

New season.   No clue who are the tough and bad teams.   People stamping in Saints and Falcons as trash and fact.  Other aspects too.  Can’t do that.  NFL history says you cant.

this year we have a rookie QB.  New O.  New D,  New HC.  That has never been a formula for a team to look good.  Winning is hard and I imagine it will be for this team.

again, see Cam in 2011.   Winning is hard.  For rookies and new teams.

Im just expecting what Frank was preaching. He used words like "contend for SB" in press conference. He said this is not a rebuild. Im just expecting a better team than last season.

What's wrong with that?

Making the playoffs is very much realistic this season. There isn't some juggernaut in this division. Even people in the Nat'l media are picking us to win this division. Why are expectations so low for you?

Meh. That’s just coaching talk.

we are 100% a rebuild.  Saying we aren’t is just making up a new definition.

NFL rookie QBs are NFL rookie QBs.  Lot of history to go off of.  Winning is hard.  Even for the good ones.  And we don’t have the roster that proven to be needed to make up the difference to get them over those learning curves.

This is about developing Young into a good QB.  And maybe the division is such utter trash a bad team gets in.  But that still wouldn’t make us good or playoff caliber.

Why do people even watch the games anymore.

The Rebuild continues!

Exciting times to watch us struggle. But at least we have our draft picks for the next few years to help us rebuild. Oh we don't have those picks so the rebuild will take much longer than expected.

2026 will be our year!

@CRA I expected better from you. You let me down with this one my man.

I mean, it is a rebuild.  Nothing wrong with that.  Excited about this one. It just sucks we wasted years with Rhule having us in no man’s land.

Maybe they can get it off the ground and rolling quick.  But I’m going to be patient with it.
