A little Steve Wilks news

Anybody with half of a brain cell could tell that the situation in Arizona was fuged for Wilks from the beginning. Hard to hold his time there against him. His time here last season, if anything, is a much more accurate representation of what he can accomplish.

Granted, that vision might be a bit dated given the offense. But Hell, if Rivera can be x2 COTY then Wilks could at least put together a competent 3 - 5 year stretch as a head coach somewhere.

Not at all surprised the Cardinals are a complete dumpster fire of an organization. Up until recently we haven't had much room to judge though. And we're still waiting to see if we've turned the corner. As for Wilks no other team interviewed him for their head coaching vacancy. You could argue it was a coordinated effort to keep him out based on his pending legal efforts toward the league. But even though it's bullshit and I think the owners are mostly scumbags you have to acknowledge the likelihood that him airing this dirty laundry out means he will probably never get another look.

Anywho for anyone who is passionate about this discussion I'm sure you can find some folks willing to engage on the 49ers message boards. Since he coaches for them now and all.

Should have been our HC. That's a story for another day.

All love for Wilks. That guy made me interested in Panthers football again. I swear I was losing interest under Rhule.

Should have been. Everyone here wanted an offensive coach and that's what they got, including Tepper. Still not sold on Reich being the guy.

Last season my man.

If we judging Wilks on his last stint, im just doing the same for Frank.

Understand now?

I understand what you are typing, but not why you would think like that. Picking just one year out if a five year period to try to prove some kind of point is really weird.

A five year offensive HC will always be preferred in this league over a somewhat unknown conservative defensive coach. I think Wilks is a great man and I hope he gets a chance eventually, but this is an odd comparison.

Did you watch the Bengals game bud? I liked Wilks personally but the passage of time seems to have made for some fuzzy memories.

Then Bengals as well and the Saints game which they totally threw for us

Yeah, all bad.  The TB game was a win and in type scenario basically.  Wilks constantly left Henderson on an island giving Evans his best game of the year.  And punted the ball twice on 4th and a foot from midfield.

49ers have the best DL in the NFL, wilks will be back in demand.

steve is just like RR, he wants to win every game 23-21. with all the roofs and rules for Offense, thats a super hard strategy to follow each week. Plus its taking alonger for winter to start, you got to pass the ball.

Damn Bill B had a loosing season last year. Picking the one season he wasn’t allowed to finish or pick who starts at QB seems a little extreme. They were 3-5-1 with Reich and 1-7 without him last year.

I don’t think Reich is some elite HC, but he is a much better coach to develop Young which is priority 1 for this franchise. He also put together a great looking staff which I’m more excited about than the Reich hire itself. We tried a defensive conservative HC with Fox, then tried it again with Ron, I didn’t want to try it a third time and expect any different results.

i think frank had a new QB each year during his time at indy, plus image having a super ego rich crackhead as your boss.... indy is a bottom 5 org.

Right but the 49ers are stacked and have had about half a dozen first rounders to build that d line with.

Well that's unfortunate because like Rivera even the defense which is supposed to be the bread and butter of both left a lot to be desired the last time we saw them coaching for us.

I've eviscerated Tepper for the clown show he's overseen with Matt Rhule but I cannot blame him for opting to go with an offensive minded head coach this time.

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
