To be fair, DJ was in the impossible position of following the man the myth the legend Trevor Lawrence. Always a tough situation in sports to be the guy who comes after “the guy”

It makes Drake Maye even more impressive. Howell was him at UNC. We have GOT to capitalize this year on having five consecutive years of elite QB play. We've never had that before. We have the best two QBs we've ever had back to back.

I only watched 2-3 Clemson games last year and he was really bad in all of them. Couldn’t handle the pressure, bad accuracy etc. What games did you watch where he was “pretty damn good”?

He looked like the worst QB in college football in the ACC CG before getting yanked.

With that said, I never understood Clemson's play calling with him. They insisted on running him like they had Lawrence previously and Klubnik currently. But DJ is not a runner. He's a classic big bodied, big armed pocket passer. He's not a Bledsoe type statue but he's not a guy you should be dialing up designed runs for on the regular.

He's an ideal college coach though. Great recruiter and motivator, but not the type of Xs and Os guy that the NFL is going to be clamoring after. Well, unless Tepper gets infatuated I guess

Did you watch his reactions on the sidelines? Probably why his team quit in the final quarter, hell coach gave up after that last fumble.
The lack of effort on that last TD run by Duke was embarrassing to watch, guys on Defense jogging and avoiding contact. But Dabo doesn’t take ownership of an ill prepared team or take an asswhipping like a man… he uses the word “odd” to describe a loss, like he doesn’t understand how over 400 yds total offense results in 7 points. Well maybe someone should show him his reactions, pretty much self explanatory.

Dabo always bitches and moans on the sidelines and acts like the refs are conspiring against his team. But you don't have the success that he's had without doing a lot of things right along the way. I don't think Dabo is a great game day coach, but he is a helluva recruiter and motivator. He's basically a better version of Mack Brown in that regard.

He just seemed to struggle a lot with his processing when under any kind of pressure. But I’m sure the caches did Jim few favors.

I was about to say, Clemson fans gotta be at least a tad nervous that here is another QB that looked really promising in spot duty as a freshman looking pretty trashy as the anointed starter.

It is obvious their receivers are not the premier receivers we have become accustomed to at Clemson.

Clemson certainly has a very talented roster but that didn't look like a typical Clemson roster last night. Usually they are very obviously head and shoulders more talented, athletic, and stronger than the other team. It just looks like men against boys. I didn't see that last night. Duke looked like they belonged on the field athletically and physically with Clemson. That's honestly more shocking to me than the outcome of the game.

Duke heating Clemson should look and feel flukey. That didn't look and feel flukey.

Also, UNC has really made it a point to go hard for in state recruits and has severed that pipeline to other schools. Pretty much what Carolina is doing in Va, which has really effected Va Tech and UVA.

Clemson imploded with the mistakes. No, they did not look like a Trevor Lawrence team. However, not scoring twice from the one yard changed the whole complexion of this game.

So did Duke muffing a punt giving you a free red zone trip. Clemson shot themselves in the foot a lot with two blocked FGs and two redzone turnovers but give them those two FGs plus two TDs on the fumbles and you're still at only 27 points with 7 points off of a free trip to the redzone. That would've been good for 74th in the nation in scoring last year. And that's basically being as generous as possible with the potential scoring opportunities last night.

Yeah not to mention the “odd” decision with 4 seconds left in the first half to not attempt a FG by a kicker who Dabo has said has the strongest leg he’s ever coached and has hit from 70… naaaah let’s just throw this little hook to end the half because we forgot our ladder.

at least Dabo wasn't blaming the chain gang for eating a hotdog at halftime as the reason he lost.

one of my favorite parts of Gamecock fans that have complained about Dabo all these years as a whinner.....is Shane Beamer is worse than Dabo.  Hard to find someone after a loss that looks worse than Beamer.

    • Not looking good for TB. Buffalo and Habs fans are the worst so I will be cheering for the meteor.
    • Arguing about who had what and who did what with more is just going to end in the same charades. If we're going to waste a lot of hot air arguing then make it about something that cannot be denied. What you are seeing with your own two eyes. Cam Newton was a tremendously talented athlete albeit flawed in fundamental aspects. And although he played poorly in and lost a Super Bowl you cannot deny him that more often than not through his prime his teammates knew they could count on him to hold up his end of the bargain usually and be a key driving force for keeping them in games. Giving his defense much needed rest and motivation in wanting to match his grit as a competitor. That aspect is just not there with Bryce Young. Yeah he's dumped on the Falcons in a dome twice but what about his other 44 games? When has the Panthers defense the last three years ever looked at their starting quarterback and thought to themselves "man I'm so glad he's my QB"?
    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
