Well if that were the case, then why the hell did they not just trade him for the 2 1st rounders then? Make no mistake, if Burns does not get a new contract, we will be having new people in that front office.

That decision is a big fat red letter on their face right now

TJ Watt's $28M was signed in September 2021 when the NFL salary cap was $182.5M. That $28M/yr avg was 15% of the cap.

If Brian Burns gets signed to a $28M/yr avg in 2023 when the salary cap is $224.8M that would account for 12.5% of the cap.

Paying Burns $28M/yr is not as impactful to the team as it was to the Steelers when TJ Watt signed his deal. Comparing the two is being willfully dismissive of the important detail that the cap today is over $40M more today.

Solid point. Thanks for the breakdown.

I was already okay with giving him 28-30 before this, hadn't realized how much the cap had really risen since Watt's deal, this makes it seem even more of a no brainer to give him the money.

People going nuts over 3mil. What can you get for that? It's not enough to bring in a top shelf player, but it's enough to send a lot of Huddlers into a rage. Damm I love this place.

And for what in the grand scheme of things? Given the same period of time, the salary cap in 2025 is projected to be $282M. That's a $57.2M increase compared to $42.3M increase that took place between 2021 and 2023. That's almost $15M more.

Just pay the man up to $28M. He might push for $30M, and if that's the difference between losing him to free agency and locking him down for the next 4yrs just pay it. If he's asking for Bosa money though, there's a million arguments against it. Getting $2M-4M less average value? Sounds like a win-win.

Sometimes the Huddle really does confuse me. Is there really that much difference between 27mil and 30mil to talk this much trash about one of our best players? Who actually wants to be here? I truly believe most of these folks would argue about anything. Whether they believe it or not. It's like a sport for them. lol

It’s about guaranteed money.  And that’s not a 3 mill squabble.  Bosa doubled what top tier pass rushers like Burns have been getting.  That’s a 60+ million guaranteed difference

You have no clue what Burns is wanting. And avg that out over the life of a 5 year deal it really may not be that big of a deal.

I love how folks just know exactly what is going on. Speculation. Thy name is Huddle.

Either way, it is no excuse for some of the vitriol thrown at Brian the last few days.

thats a 60+ million difference  in guaranteed money from Bosa and those guys.

Guaranteed is what matters most and you ain’t even talking that lol.   That’s what matters most.  And that the primary discussion in most big deals.

Using past contracts to make a point in the present. Gotta love that spin.

Again, when you can come at me with actual numbers.

    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
    • this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
