BB and his agent know they have the Panthers by the brass balls that supposedly sit on Tepper's desk and I am not mad at he and his representation for 1 minute

 

Burns is getting 1 mega deal, maybe a second, but that's his window to earn all he can for he, his family and future. 

His agent has to keep a reputation for his/her self of client representation, there's no "hometown discounts" for a guy in his prime at a valuable position

When the Panthers turned down the haul they had offered, Burns and Co. knew they won the game, it was not a matter of if, just a matter of when. They also know the franchise spent a lot of draft capital for a rookie QB so the most expensive position in football doesn't have to get paid for 5 more seasons. 

 

While I DO NOT think Burns is worth the amount of money he will be getting, I understand the market need for DEs, the leverage he has and quite honestly if you remove your homer badge anyone of us with a pulse would do the same

 

Get that money Burns

Get a double digit sack season

He's not worth top of the market money imo but the panthers might have to pay him close to that to keep him on the team. I'm not sure we have any pass rush without him...

We have Houston. Maybe it's time to look at what is still out there.  There may no be a long term option, but maybe Dunlap is still serviceable.

If we have to change our expectations for the season so be it. Still  rebuilding with or without Burns. I'm intrigued by Barno

Not sure why anyone would be mad at him playing out the 5th year (or not), but I'm not grossly overpaying for his services just because he feels that he has the team over a barrel. The fifth best money in the league at his position seems about right. It's "fair" in my opinion.

He doesn’t have us by the balls.  He’s under a 5th year option.  Holding out means he loses millions and still doesn’t accrue a season.  Then back to the same spot he’s in right now.  We have a first year head coach and rookie QB.  I don’t think anyone believes this is a SB or bust team.  It’s not like Burns is the difference between a ring or a losing season.  Don’t overpay and handicap us for the next few years.  We have more holes to fill and no first rounder next year.  Let him hold out.  Let him lose millions.  Let the league forget about him by this time next year.  Or…he can agree to a deal that pays him in the top 8-10 for his position, which matches his performance.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this entire situation is reminiscent of the Charles Johnson situation back in the day. We overpaid for CJ, but he still had a solid but not spectacular career through that contract.

Hopefully Burns takes that next step once we pay him. He's a top 10ish Pass rusher in this league, and those top 10 guys tend to reset the market once their deals come up. In a year or two he will have a top 5 deal, and in another, he'll have a top 10 deal.

On David Tepper’s turf? No chance in hell.

The guy is trying to get a long term deal that will pay him millions, why risk it playing on the ligament monster that is the turf at BofA.

Agreed.  I referenced Charles Johnson in another thread as well.  We simply cannot make that same mistake twice.

I don't think CJ was a mistake, just a slight overpay. He is our third best DE of all time

He was way overpaid, and the contract structure was atrocious.  Handicapped us for years.
