Did we watch the same game? He threw 2 bad interceptions. He missed pretty bad on a couple deep shots that were open. And then down 14 with 4 minutes left checked down or threw away every single pass, didn’t even try to get in the end zone. I love Bryce and I really want him to be a great player but he didn’t pass many eye tests there.

First pick, safety came flying in from the other side of the field. Safety made a great play. The second pick was dumbfounding. As for his play the last 4 minutes, there is literally no point in throwing to receivers downfield if they are blanketed. I don't think anyone here can say if he was missing downfield targets that were open without the all-22. I don't think it's a good idea to try to force a miracle if it's not there.

I'm gonna need a bigger sample size.  Felt like coaching, WRs, and QB could have all done way better in the passing game.

Hard to know who was the more significant detriment.  During the game, it felt like a fairly split combo.  We did have one very pretty drive that showed well...then ended with a crappy 3rd and 4th down call.

We desperately need speed on offense and need to get Bryce doing stuff like Tua's managing in MIA.

However, for me, Bryce passed the eye test with flying colors. His first NFL start and he already looked as good or better than all QBs since 2019.

I honestly did not see this. As good or better than all QBs we've had since '19 is WAY too low of a bar for a QB we mortgaged the franchise to trade up to #1 to get since we've probably had the worst QB situation in the NFL during that stretch. I just didn't see any plays from Bryce today that showed me special talent. The type of talent you mortgage the franchise to go and get.

Way more concern now than before the game. He looked nothing but below average

Let’s talk more around week 8.  🙂

I mean he's a rookie QB making his debut.  What was expected?  His numbers are about on par for most QBs making their debut, outside of guys who are reliant on their athleticism (Newton / RG3 / Mariota / etc). And considering how 2 of those QBs' career went...

Young didn't look perfect, I'm not arguing that.  But I'm not sure how people can watch him play and think he didn't look good for someone making his NFL debut.  It was no better or worse than Luck, Burrow, P. Manning, E. Manning, Stafford, I can go on and on.  The focus should have been on Young showing traits that translate every week and he did.

Anyone disappointed in his performance today is/was simply expecting way too much for a QB in his first game.  For a debuting rookie he had a solid game.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
