Report: Burns and mid season trade

The title of the article I think may be misleading.  Burns asked about mid season trade.  That could be interpreted 3 different ways and certainly not clear.

1) Did he ask the organization about being traded.

2) Did the organization ask if he wanted to be traded.

3) A reporter asked him about the possibility of it happening.

I'm thinking my 3rd interpretation and someone is trying to make something out of nothing.  Poor writing and reporting or done on purpose?  Click bait?  IDK

I bet it was David Newton who asked that, wasn’t it?

You're looking at it in terms of absolutes.

I think there are VERY few people here who actually want to trade him in general, I know I sure as hell don't.  But when it is very possibly the decision between trading him or paying him $35 million a season, with what this team still needs, I don't think we can pay him that.

I'm 100% on board with giving him $28-30 million to keep him, he's that good of a player.  And honestly, in a vacuum, I probably wouldn't be against paying him that $35 a year either.

But when the alternative to paying the $35 would be to get 2 firsts (yes, someone will still give us that, even if they end up being picks in the 20's) that can get us good talent on cheap deals.  And then also getting to use that $35 a year to go sign say, a $20/year WR and a $15/year pass rusher, on top of the firsts, then I think that's a hard thing to ignore.

Your point of "filling in the pieces" is correct, the problem is that it will be very hard to fill in those pieces if we have to make Burns the highest paid defensive player in league history.

This one is 100% on Fitterer for not paying him before the season started, as that was a deal that could have been done at $28-30 a year, for sure.  But he bluffed a hand he didn't have and Burns called him on it and very well may put up video game numbers this year.

I agree with this take, I'd love to resign him but at this point if we can get picks and use the money I'm Ok with it. Imagine If we used that 35mil for Tee Higgins and to resign Luvu. Still would have the picks and another $35 more million to replace Deshawn Williams, Chinn, and CJ Henderson. First Choice is resign like 4 years 120millin 85 guaranteed or something but if cant work it out may as well move on.

Lions lost a pass rusher today while their WRs are looking pretty good.

How about Burns for Jameson Williams, 2024 1st, and a 2025 2nd?

I doubt the Lions will trade Williams and that could be a tad too much for them to do anyways (maybe a 3rd instead of the other 2nd would work more realistically), but pairing Burns with Hutchinson would give them an insane pass rush.

We'll never come to an agreement on pay with him. He won't be a Panther in 2024.

If that's the consensus between his camp and the Panthers, a mid-season trade makes sense.  Better to get something rather than nothing.  We may not get the haul that the Rams were offering us, but if we can at least recoup one first rounder, preferably next year's when we lack one, that's nothing to sneeze at.

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
