He excelled last year in a more power run oriented offense. I just don't know that he's the right style of LT in our current offense. He's probably always going to be more of a power oriented player. We just have square pegs in round holes all over this roster IMO.

Of the top 3 tackles drafted last year, he is probably the worst suited for this type of offense. Sad really that we can't seem to pick an offensive philosophy and go with it.

4/7 on 20+ yard passes.

Bryce has the same number of 20+ yard attempts in 5 games.

That's not an attempt to troll. I'm just pointing out that a change at QB produced a passing game that looked entirely different even though the OL struggled mightily per usual.

24% (14/58) were intermediate throws. Bryce against Miami was 39% intermediate throws.

This offense is dink and dunk by design. There's no arguing Dalton has the stronger arm so he took more long shots, but the VAST majority of all the offensive plays we have run this year have been underneath/mesh concepts with limited verticality (is that a word?). Bryce took more consistently intermediate shots percentage wise than Dalton did in his one start.

Agreed. I think he's a good player, he's just not a good LT in our system. He's probably an OG in this type of offense.

To me it’s just all a timing issue. Every deep throw has been him overthrowing guys. Some have been straight missed by him, some have been pass interference that hasn’t been called, and some have been poor protection.

The problem is that we just haven’t had a lot of opportunities to throw it deep so every miss gets out under a microscope

If that's all it is we will certainly know by the conclusion of the season. For the sake of everyone's sanity and overall feelings hopefully Brown is the one to unlock it. If however things do not work out that way though I expect this place will not be at all pleasant for some people.

Agreed. You don't have to throw deep a lot, but you do have to go deep effectively enough to establish the threat. It gets really tough to effectively move the football when the entire field is redzone offense.

This imo is why Bryce and the panthers will always struggle. Dink and dunk offenses need to be perfect for 10-15 plays and it’s just not sustainable unless you’re Tom Brady. Something will almost always go wrong

Here's my thought process though. Of all the high scoring offenses in the NFL, how many are really built around the run you into submission mentality vs run it to keep defenses honest?

The top offenses all can run, but they're far more dangerous vs the pass than the run. KC, SF, Detroit, Miami, Philly. All can run, but the receiving game is what really opens that run threat up.

Seems to me like we've just got a HC and we'll see about Brown, that doesn't know how to put pieces where they would work best.

I didn’t either.  But that’s what the team said and that’s how they behaved.  They deserve to be criticized.

Bryce isn’t at the top of my list of complaints.  But I think it’s fair to talk about his limitations and ones that will never go away.  He needs a good team around him.  He doesn’t have the physical tools to mask problems in the manner some others do.  And that should be okay to talk about.

Your definition of “limitations” is is he big enough or fast enough to be a force multiplier in the run game and it’s far, far too narrow view of QB play. There are traits he has, right now, and demonstrates, that some QBs never do. There are things he does better of the bus-right now-better than Cam Newton.

QB ceilings are not defined by physical attributes

It's why I thought that Ickey might end up as an OG in the NFL.

It took his GM acquiring 2 of the top 10 WRs in the NFL to make him into a 'good' QB.

That's very difficult to do.

To make him the best QB in the league currently. Burrow also has a lot of weapons as does Hurts and Purdy. This should be our goal.

This is an excellent breakdown by someone who actually understands what is going on as opposed to some of the fans on here, particularly the never Bryce folks and the folks who claim he has no arm.

Its clear Bryce has elite accuracy and anticipation, especially when given the time.

More than enough arm strength. He hit that dig route from the opposite hash to the sideline with ease.

Have to be better on the deep shots, but its clearly not from a lack of being able to make the throw. Contextually, he is being impacted by the pressure. I think he makes that throw with a clean pocket, but in the NFL its not always going to be perfect. Have to do a better job of making that throw and taking the shot you know is coming

Some missed throws for sure, Bryce is not absolved from the bad, he needs to improve, but I am confident he can.

My only counter is that Bryce has yet to play a defense as bad as that Seahawks secondary

    • Lol, good one. Rod will never let Necas Play center
    • All I can say is... I have some happiness off the rags choking and losing to the Panthers. Hopefully the Western conference team wins the Stanley cup, but now I can be 100% uninvested in the playoffs
