Lamar Jackson was there for the taking in the off-season. The Nat'l media pushed for us to sign him. Tepper didn't even make a call.

Now we stuck with Bryce Young who most people know he doesn't have franchise QB talent. These will be a few wasted years and we don't have our picks on top of it.

In Tepper We Bust!

Lamar will not last long term in this league, his style of play with his body type isn't going to hold up.

He wasn't even worth the contract the Ravens had to give him, let alone what someone would have needed to trade away on top of it to even get him.

I'm quite convinced that his deal will look terrible before this contract is up, he has a year or two left before the hits start adding up and his play drops off dramatically.  Hell, let's see if he's even able to finish THIS season healthy, this is about the time of year he has been getting hurt and can't finish the season each of the last couple years.

Yes he was. The original asking price before the tag was quite steep, but seeing what we gave up for BY, a complete unknown, the prices were basically equivalent. After the tag, I think the Ravens would just have matched the offer. No way we could have gotten him for just 2 1sts.

Trading for Lamar wasn't my 1st choice, or even 2nd or 3rd, but seeing what our FO has done, I don't think they could have bungled it much worse.

I want to actually win in the playoffs though.  Lamar doesn't do that.  He mostly feasts on average to below average defenses.

All I know is he win games.

They currently look like the best team in the AFC and Lamar is right at the top for MVP. Yeah and he's healthy so far.

We still have DJ Moore in this scenario. I think we missed out on a potential playoff team in this weak division.

It is what it is.

They mocked you, and some even said Lamar wasn’t that good. You had “respected” posters questioning his character. You were on point with LJ.

MVP candidate. He would’ve been a great pickup, but Baltimore wasn’t going to let him go.

No to Allar.

But also the general consensus that no matter what we/any team would have offered the Ravens would have matched it.

How do you know if you don't actually put out a contract?

We don't know for sure what they would have done. It was real ugly at one point, maybe they take the picks because they fed up with Lamar?

Could have went either way we will never know.

I wasn't a big fan of trading for Lamar simply because it would've meant giving up significant draft assets and a massive contract for a QB with a significant injury history and a playing style that kenda itself to future industry, but fug... I would've rather done that than trade up for Bryce.

I would rather have Sam Darnold than Bryce right now. At least we still have DJ Moore.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
