BREAKING: Albert Breer, Scott Fitterer’s job as the GM is not safe

We didn't just draft a long snapper - we drafted a long snapper when our current one (JJ Jansen) is the best in the game and has been for over a decade now, hasn't retired, is not showing any interest in retiring, and hasn't shown any decline in quality (he has like one botched snap, ever, and I'm pretty sure it was a decade ago).

We drafted a long snapper as a luxury pick and he not only didn't make the roster, he's not actually played a single game of professional football since.

We passed up Trey Smith for Thomas Fletcher when we KNEW WE NEEDED HELP ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE!!!!!!!!  How was it that no adult in the room stopped Rhule and just brought up the point that, "hey, I know there are a few medical flags regarding an offensive lineman who has a 1st round grade, but you think rolling the dice on a long snapper would truly be a better move for this team?"  Perfect example of there truly being no such thing as a luxury pick in the NFL draft.

Rhule was the guy behind that.

Doesn't matter now though. With the stuff that's come out from Dianna Russini today, It's pretty much impossible to keep him.

How do you hire a new head coach and ask him to work with somebody who went behind the previous coach's back to talk to the owner about him?

He was--the coach drafts a long snapper and his wife drafts a RB because he had a good game against Baylor--the GM has to oversee that--so it is either Fitterer's fault or he is a rudderless boat.  He should have stepped up, instead, he let Rhule go--maybe that was due to his support from Tepper, but either way, the situation is dysfunctional.

There's a theme I've come to see you in a lot of Fitterer's decisions...

Fletcher and others were drafted because of Rhule.

Terrace Marshall was drafted on the word of Joe Brady.

Matt Corral was taken thanks to advocacy from Ben McAdoo

DJ Johnson was brought aboard because Ejiro Evero wanted him.

And of course there's Bryce Young, who Fitterer may have had conviction on or who may have been David Tepper's favorite. Result is the same either way.

We used to hear a lot about The Appaloosa Way and how it favored collaborative thinking. Hell, that was even echoed by Reich when he hired the "all star staff" including people from outside his circle (at David Tepper's suggestion).

What have we ultimately learned?

That The Appaloosa Way is horse sh-t.

With the next brain trust, I want somebody over it all who knows their sh-t and doesn't have to do an opinion poll to make a decision.

And no, that can't be David Tepper because not only does he not know his sh-t, he doesn't seem to know sh-t at all 🙄

Yeah...Not "the way", and not happening.

Listen, we can sign Cam, get Olsen to coach, trade back for CMC after the niners win a title, have luke be DC, sign smitty, resign DJ moore b/c the bears will cut him, and then draft only offensive lineman. that would still be better than anything put on the field in the last five years.

You realize that even if we did all that, we'd probably also hire Marty Hurney back as the GM and thus, screw it all up 😕

Hubbard is one of the better picks we've made despite the Huddle deciding they hated him for no reason

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
