Our buddy Casillas had a really interesting notion on that front...

Back when Marty was still in charge (and there was no end in sight) many of us had this vain hope that he'd be "kicked upstairs" to a position where he retained administrative duties and general team management stuff but had no personnel authority.

Casillas suggested that could happen to Fitterer, and it makes some sense. He's said to be well liked within the organization (not just by Tepper) and reportedly pretty good at the  non-personnel related aspects of the GM job.

I disagree with going that route because I think with the reports of a toxic atmosphere inside the team's offices - not to mention stories that Fitterer himself might have helped undermine Frank Reich - there's just no way you can keep him around.

But looking at it from David Tepper's perspective, the idea might actually make some sense and could even potentially work If the toxic atmosphere stories are satisfactorily addressed.

By all accounts it is the atmosphere Tepper himself created. All these back channels are ultimately to him.

The Browns owner had a big expose written where he sort of did the same in his organization. I don't think it's an isolated thing for bad owners. Snyder had similar.

It could also be seen as a way of admitting he was wrong without fully admitting it.

We will see. I am highly skeptical he will accept much responsibility beyond "not getting the right guy." That’s the problem, IMO. It's not about the right guy, he hasn't learned how this all works. He hasn't learned that ultimately all he has to do it get adults in the room that know what they are doing and just write the checks.

Doesn't mean that he will never have input but ultimately he needs to have good advisors that tell him what is what.

He has wrapped his head around the fact that he isn't going to "figure this out." He doesn't know a fuging thing about football, much less professional football. Therefore his "football opinions" are worth less than the average Huddler.

I'm not making any predictions at this point. I just disagree with this being the way to go.

At this point I would give this current coaching staff another season together. Things are looking better and it wouldn't be good for anyone to have an all new staff for the second season in a row. If they suck then bring in a new staff to pick a new qb in '25

I agree with this. Because no new coach has poo for next year coming in here. Especially if Ben Johnson says no. Do we want to be the Raiders?

Mike Macdonald +400

How am I just now hearing about this candidate? He honestly is probably just as good a bet as Ben Johnson if you look at his bio, he graduated Summa Cum Laude at UGA in Finance... Tepper is going to jizz his pants and create a thruple with him and Nicole. Honestly could be worst choices, that defense last night looked absolutely championship calibre. Will be interesting to watch.

Anyone know anything else about this guy?

Michael MacDonald (born June 26, 1987) is an American football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL).

Early years[edit]

Macdonald was born in Boston in 1987.[1] He attended Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia. He played baseball and football at Centennial but saw limited action as a senior due to injuries.[1][2]

He next attended the University of Georgia where he studied finance and graduated summa cum laude.[1] While still a student at Georgia, he also coached high school football at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia.[3]

Coaching career[edit]

Georgia[edit]

In May 2010, he joined Mark Richt's coaching staff as a graduate assistant with the Georgia Bulldogs football program.[1][4] He also served as a safeties and defensive quality control coach at Georgia from 2011 to 2013.[5] In 2013, while coaching at Georgia, he received a master's degree in sports management.[1]

Baltimore Ravens[edit]

Macdonald served on John Harbaugh's coaching staff with the Baltimore Ravens for seven seasons from 2014 to 2020.[6] He was hired as an intern in 2014 and was promoted to defensive assistant in January 2015,[7] defensive backs coach in January 2017,[8] and linebackers coach in January 2018.[9]

Michigan[edit]

In January 2021, Macdonald joined Jim Harbaugh's staff at the University of Michigan. He was hired as the defensive coordinator of the Michigan Wolverines football program, making a record breaking $1,000,000 a year in salary. In Macdonald’s only season at the University of Michigan, the Wolverines posted a top 10 national defense, won the Big Ten Conference Championship, and played in the College Football Playoff (CFP). The team finished with a national ranking of #3. Two of Macdonald’s former defensive players at the University of Michigan were selected in the 1st round of the 2022 National Football League Draft on April 28, 2022.

Baltimore Ravens (second stint)[edit]

On January 27, 2022, Macdonald was re-hired by the Baltimore Ravens as their defensive coordinator under head coach John Harbaugh, replacing Don Martindale.[10]

Had he made the sensible decision and not hired Rhule back then we wouldn't be worried about his input.  His problem is he tries to fix the issues he created, by trying to outsmart the game, himself.  Hire the right guy at GM and HC (Theres a few good options) and sit back and watch them work.  I promise if we get football people who actually know football in house then we won't hear from him much if it at all. No more RAS standouts, no more trying to be cute, get real football players that are good at their respective positions and watch the team flourish.  I'm growing tired of drafting dudes who played 4 positions in college for the 1 position they played the least bc they fit the "athletic profile" get me some dawgs.
