BREAKING: Dave Tepper willing to pay $15 million for Ben Jonson

He should hire a firm to put together a list. They should give him veto power to nix candidates from the list.  Anyone he doesn't like should be the only people interviewed. Then hire the person he likes the least.

But to be fair he'll Hire the wrong firm

Here we go folks. No one will say so I will. Tepper is meddling again.

I said it.  I am kindof off the johnson train because of his fixation with him.  I dont want dave and nicole making the call.  Hire a gm and/president and let them figure it out.  Dave and nicole are how we ended up with rhule, reich and not stechien which obviously was the wrong choice

If this is true then it’s pretty much a guarantee Ben Johnson is our next HC. LETS just hope he brings stability to the head coaching position finally.

and tbh, contrary to what many might think, i actually believe the idea of getting Bryce to work with is probably attractive to Ben.

I don’t think this is a crazy take lol. It was widely reported last offseason that a lot of teams had Bryce as QB1. I don’t think an up and down rookie season would change people’s interest in coaching him.

There's zero chance an owner in not involved with a coach being hired.

Rational and agree. Owner should be looking big picture And have some detailed set criteria and sign off but he shouldn’t be the only guy making the decision. Need football guys making sure the coach checks all the football boxes.

But if the Ben Johnson fascination is a Tepper dream I don't have much hope for it.

Dude needs to hire a GM first. If not rinse and repeat

To be fair, we do know Scott and Dan were involved in the Reich hiring and Hurney was involved in the Rhule hiring. So at least Tepper isn’t going full on commando and doing it with no help. I’m sure whoever the next GM will be involved or he’ll just hire a head coach in GM in tandem. It doesn’t really matter who gets hired first imo as long as their visions are aligned.

Also, Ik some have been mentioning him using a search firm but I kinda think the league is moving away from that. Albert Breer had an article out earlier this year about how owners are being more involved in their hires and not leaning on firms as much. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think a hiring firm has been used for a HC/GM hire in at least a few years. The only recent one that comes to mind for me is Cleveland when they hired Stefanski.

Edit: Here’s the Breer article:

Search firms may be a thing of the past lol.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
