CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- New Carolina Pantherscoach Dave Canales is hiring a familiar face as his offensive coordinator, but that person won't be calling the plays.

Brad Idzik, who followed Canales from the Seattle Seahawks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneersto coach wide receivers last season, will again follow Canales to the Panthers, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Canales, however, will call plays for the Panthers as he did as the offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay last season, sources told ESPN. Idzik, 32, has never been a playcaller.

I just hope these guys are innovative.  It is crazy to watch us run plays that are outdated and easy to defend.  It's frustrating to watch other teams run some pretty cool plays, and I am not talking gadget plays only, and we run a vanilla offense.

I look forward to Canales getting our O-Line straight with the players we already have and draft a couple of weapons for Young.  He sorely needs them.

Vanilla is being generous. Some of the stuff we ran was straight out of a  generic high school playbook.

I mean, if your HC is a good playcaller....we have seen that work out very well for folks.   Both HCs in the Super Bowl are calling the O.

      I mean in this economy, companies have to be smarter with their spending. Sending reporters to Charlotte to cover a moribund, Pop Warner-level franchise is the ultimate waste of money that should get execs fired. If the media were being kept out, they'd report that--it's the most self-important profession in the world. Even for the locals who know "Panthers suck yet again" stories get them no clicks. Bottom line, no conspiracy here. They're just not worth covering.
