Panthers new offensive philosophy

Another part from the presser I thought was worthy of it's own thread.

Canales went into detail on how he wants the offense to be successful

- Protect the ball at all costs  (nothing new here)

- Get the ball out in 2.7 seconds or less.  Said this is the goal for Bryce and QBs in practice and games.  They will time it and set it as the standard.    Find guys that can get open quickly.  Takes stress off your QB and your O-line so they don't pass block as long.

 

 

It's the opposite of last years deep drops and long developing routes.  And it should help our O-line.

He also spoke about running to set up the pass. Specifically mentioned Chuba but not Sanders.

I think he's gonna play to Bryce's strengths. Doesn't mean the pass game will necessarily be short. Canales' history says he likes going deep, but it's a fast, decisive deep shot, not waiting for things to develop. Scheme will be there, so execute. 

If Bryce falters, I don't see him remaining if whoever we have in the QB room is capable. He wants to win now, and he's not as married to Bryce as Tepper and Morgan are. Hopefully Morgan has told him "nobody is sacred, win above all else". That seems to be his mindset, and consistency is talked about a lot, so let's hope

I think he sees what he could do with Baker and is drooling over what he can do with Bryce.  The biggest thing I'm getting from him is the culture he brings, the tailoring and creating an offense to fit the teams skill set and his voice/mannerism.

He's has a slightly slowed down cadence when he talks and speaks very, very clearly.  Seems like he has that teacher, mentor, following the process and the results will come type of dude.

I also think this is the first time we have legit had a younger coach.  I love the potential and energy.

I could see the only returning WR be the rookie and everyone else will either be cut or not resigned. 
No reason to keep Thielen.

Bryce is smart, known to be a quick processor.  I understand that we will be under center a lot running play action--that necessitates the QB will have his back the line of scrimmage for about a second or even more on play action passes.  It gets him moving and he would then make a quick read or two and get rid of it.  Less complicated that two or three reads and a checkdown when you are a 5-10 QB standing in the pocket watching big, lumbering WRs break and then get covered.  This will be about timing, and his quick processing might work to his advantage.  This is smart on paper. 

I also think Canned Ales (I just made that up on the fly)

will be smart to get the voices out of Bryce's head.  He was confused and he lost confidence.  They really should have benched Bryce to learn and played Andy.  I did not see the presser--just commenting on your comments.

Honestly, it's worth watching.   

There are some fluff moments like in every presser.   But you really get a feel for why he was the guy.

 

He CHOSE this job to work with Bryce.  Said the passing offense will be based on the things Bryce does well and not force Bryce into plays that he can't excel at.

 

He considers last year a learning year and is basically getting the #1 pick with an extra year of experience.

 

It may not workout with Bryce but having the HC be completely behind you will give him the best chance.   Especially with the quick passing game.

This dang press conference with Canales and Morgan got me smoking the hopium again. They are saying all the right things.... Ugh. Hope springs eternal...

Saquan about to be a free agent this year, he won't come cheap but there is no denying his talent. Obviously, it depend if Saquan wants to come here and he will demand a big paycheck. But imagine what Saquan could do for Bryce.
