Let him walk now for the comp pick.  Why do we want him here 2 more years when he doesnt want to be here, isnt a "dawg" and has already talked about playing not to get hurt last season?  He going to get over that and magically play hard on these 1 year franchise tags?  Trade him or cut bait.

You only get the comp pick if you don't sign equal value worth of FAs. This is a bad year to let him walk for a comp pick; the team is likely going to be active in FA.

Yeah, almost zero chance this team is getting a comp pick this year or the next few. You have to have a wealth of talent to acquire compensation picks, and the Panthers have a dearth.

They should cut their loses. We already fugged ourselves with the Rams offer then then turning down every deal this year for Burns.

Make that non exclusive for one first and call it. Who the hell is giving up 2 first for Brian Burns? I just don't see it after last season.

Or he can play here under the tag and half ass it again.

Just watched it, and he's right. Someone is trying to bully the new kids on the block, and If Morgan falls for it, then he's more housecat than dawg. Nothing else that he says will I take at face value.

I don't know if I agree. I don't doubt that other teams do this sort of thing to get a player cheaper than they would otherwise. That said, these other teams saw the report with Burns saying he "played it safe" so he wouldn't get hurt. And if they paid attention to his tape from prior seasons, they would see he's really just a one trick pony not worth what he's wanting. So, like always, the truth most likely lies somewhere in the middle.

This would be more of a concern to me if we hired someone with little to no experience in an NFL FO as GM.

The proof will be in the pudding. It seems that more Huddlers agree with you than me, but I still say that many on the Huddle are simply underrating Burns' value.

I hope that you're right. As for me, I am somewhat concerned because I haven't seen the watershed moment that is the clear delineation between Morgan's modus operandi and Fitterer's. For me, it's all been business as usual so far, but that's not to say that that moment isn't coming; I'm just still waiting.

Yeah, kind of hard to see it right now, we should have a bead on him in the coming days/months.

I'm less so concerned because he had 1st hand experience on what not to do.  Like you don't get an easier layup than this.

Yeah, we'll find out in time. A lot of the guys here that are now saying trade Burns, wanted to re-sign him at the beginning of the season. I was on the trade Burns bandwagon the moment those first Rams' trade rumors started because I never felt he was a game changing talent. Two firsts was a vast overpay. And then it ended up being the two firsts plus a second! Fitt was a terrible GM, but back to Burns.

Even mediocre players generally find the juice to play well in a contract year. Burns did the opposite, played it "safe", and is still demanding top end money. That's a huge red flag for me.

Burns can't play the run, doesn't rack up a lot of QB pressures or hits, and can't drop back in coverage. For all the poo, Sweat gets on here, he has outplayed Burns the last couple of years when it comes to those advanced stats. Heck, he had more sacks last season too. Burns is a slightly above average third down pass rush specialist asked to play all three downs. That's not the sort of guy you break the bank for nor trade multiple picks for.

I feel from when free agency opens and through the draft we will get an onslaught of activity to see how this new FO will operate.  But it will be impossible to judge until next season and beyond.

Would definitely prefer to trade Burns for picks in this draft and not in 25.  Much deeper draft here.  Early second at worse to start.  Can’t give him away.  Otherwise just play him on the tag
