I get that he sucked last year, but the optimist in me ask how any QB would be successful last year, much less as a rookie. Things like this don’t just disappear. He has many many examples just a year prior that proves he can make throws anywhere on the field. His college tape is phenomenal.

Virtually everyone in the NFL  has 'great college tape'. It means nothing that he threw a long TD in college. We are yet to see him do it at the NFL level, nevermind consistently. I doubt we ever will.

Bringing in a vet can be better than taking a chance on a rookie in a late round that at least he's got some experience and you have an idea of what you're getting. It allows the Panthers to draft 1 good WR (2nd or 3rd) instead of taking another one in the late rounds (unless a really good one also falls). He's 3rd to 5th on the depth chart anyway.

people love to complain about them because they aren't future HoFers.

I think it's also because virtually every topic gets derailed into a Bryce Young snark thread within like 5 posts every time.  If we sign some o-linemen, it's specifically because Bryce Young = short and bad.  If we don't sign a receiver, it's because he didn't want to play with a crappy QB like Bryce.  Hell, even if we don't sign a no-name 4th string linebacker with 4 tackles last yearit's specifically because he didn't want to be on the same team as 5'10 Bryce Young (yes, an actual post in the Justin Strnad thread).

    • After seeing hits in the last two UDFA pools, I do not in this group sorta of a let down after I gassed myself up.  Not like I know of their games, but just expected more. The duke DT only has to beat out hunte (2025 UDFA) or Ray (DL coach's kid) or even Cam Jackson mid 2025 5th.  I thought they would bring in more edges, IOL, TEs, etc...
    • My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask? 3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!! 5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND. Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start. In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract. A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL. In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.   Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.   Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.
